General Statement
The Director of Nurse Education provides academic and operational leadership for all nursing programs at Quinsigamond Community College. This includes oversight of the full nursing education pathway, from pre-nursing program through pre-licensure nursing programs. The Director ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements, supports faculty development and performance, manages daily operations, and promotes a forward-thinking, student-centered educational environment that encourages faculty innovation and supports student success and transition into practice.
Supervision Received
Reports directly to the Dean of the School of Healthcare and the Assistant Dean of Healthcare.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises all faculty and staff assigned to the Nurse Education Department, including program coordinators, chairs, lab coordinators, and program assistants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide academic and operational leadership for QCC's nursing education programs, spanning the Pre-Nursing Program, including nurse assistant course, through Practical Nursing and Associate Degree in Nursing pathways.
- Ensure program compliance with applicable CMR regulations, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements.
- Serve as the official program administrator for the ADN and PN programs, as defined by 244 CMR 6.04.
- Oversee curriculum development, review, and revision in collaboration with faculty.
- Manage program budgets, resource allocations, and external vendor contracts.
- Participate in faculty hiring, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development.
- Lead preparation and submission of required reports and applications to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
- Complete faculty course assignments and teaching loads in accordance with contractual obligations and program needs.
- Provide oversight of nursing faculty workloads to ensure equitable distribution and instructional continuity across programs and semesters.
- Collaborate with the Dean of the School of Healthcare on matters of faculty discipline, upholding institutional policy and contractual processes.
- Respond to and investigate student complaints related to the nurse education programs, collaborating with faculty and staff to ensure timely resolution, while maintaining compliance with institutional and regulatory procedures.
- Monitor student learning outcomes, licensure pass rates, and program effectiveness.
- Oversee the program's systematic evaluation plan and use results for continuous improvement.
- Engage faculty, students, and stakeholders in shared governance, decision-making, and planning.
- Represent the nursing program to internal and external partners, including clinical affiliates.
- Maintain current knowledge of nursing education best practices, workforce trends, and policy changes.
- Attend and participate in state and national meetings related to nursing education.
- Ensure program information (e.g., handbooks, websites, publications) is accurate and compliant.
- Participate in program and institutional strategic planning and advisory board activities.
- Support faculty and staff in maintaining clinical site readiness and onboarding processes.
- Promote innovation in nursing education and develop initiatives to improve student retention, progression, and transition to professional practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
- Current and unrestricted Massachusetts RN license.
- Minimum of five (5) years of full-time nursing experience within the last eight (8) years.
- Meets the qualifications for Nursing Program Administrator under Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (244 CMR 6.04).
- Meets the qualifications for Nursing Program Administrator under Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field.
- Experience with administrative leadership in nursing education.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of leading program accreditation and compliance efforts.
- Experience with conflict resolution and student conduct processes.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and innovative nursing education.
- Experience managing faculty in a collective bargaining environment.
- Ability to foster and support forward-thinking ideas from faculty to improve academic programs.
