Summary


The Clinic Director is responsible for the clinical training of graduate students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department and also oversees the quality of professional services delivered in the Speech and Hearing Clinic.

Essential Functions


  • Plans and issues student clinical assignments for both in house and off campus experiences. Negotiates agreements, contracts, or grants as necessary to provide sites for effective clinical training. Establishes relationships across campus and in the community which will foster clinical training. Supports development and implementation of new clinical programs.
  • Develops, implements and reviews clinic policies and procedures. Remains aware of current professional standards, institutional guidelines, and legal statutes regarding program standards, student experiences, and public services; evaluates and maintains clinic within those guidelines.
  • Establishes standards and procedures for the supervision and evaluation of students and communicates standards to students, staff, faculty and of campus supervisors. Monitors external training sites regularly to ensure that quality training is being provided to the graduate students. Develops, implements, consults and evaluates clinical remediation plans when appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains clinic records in regard to case management and activity of students, supervisors, and clients. Monitors procedures used by staff, supervisors and students in keeping records with respect to format, procedures, availability of records and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance). Monitor clinic activity to: a) demonstrate institutional and professional accountability; b) allow for effective treatment of clients; c) engage in future planning; and d) establish and implement procedures for appropriate monitoring of student progress in meeting clinical competencies and requirements for graduation and certification.
  • Sets policies regarding admission, treatment, and dismissal of clients. Monitors quality of care provided to clients and institutes policies and procedures used by office staff, supervisors, and graduate clinicians in total management of care.
  • Plans for fiscal management of clinic. Establishes the standard fees charged for clinical services and maintains and monitors billing and third party payment procedures.
  • Maintains and assesses the status of equipment and training materials.
  • Maintains and updates The Handbook of Clinical Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists with preparation of public informational materials describing services offered by the clinic.
  • Provides direct patient care and provides direct supervision, evaluation and instruction of SLP graduate students in the on-campus clinic, screening sites and at contract sites.
  • Teaches clinically related graduate level courses, as assigned by the Chair. Performs committee duties, attends departmental meetings, conferences, and other educational meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

The following Education is required:
  • Master's degree in speech-language pathology
The following Experience is required:
  • 5 years of clinical experience as a certified speech-language pathologist
  • 3 years of experience in clinical teaching/supervision
  • 2 years of administrative/managerial or related experience
The following Licensure, Certifications, and/or Registrations are required:
  • Ohio license in Speech-Language Pathology or eligible for Ohio licensure
  • Certificate in Clinical Competence from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • maintenance of required continuing education for these credentials


Additional Information

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of: accreditation standards; national practice in education of SLP's; HIPAA; ADA; FERPA
  • Able to work with a wide variety of people with broad backgrounds and experiences
  • Familiarity with campus resources for student support
  • Experience in a wide variety of health care and educational settings
