Position Description
The Space Planner provides institution-wide analytical support for the planning, allocation, and performance evaluation of teaching, research, and administrative (office) space. The role develops and maintains comprehensive space metrics, models, and projections; performs GAPS analyses; and provides direct decision support to the Space Allocation Committee (SAC), Teaching Space Sub-Committee (TSSC), and Research Space Sub-Committee (RSSC), Reese National Security Center (RNSC) governance committees. This position leads the development of space data systems, SQL integrations, and data quality processes across the enterprise data warehouse, Fabric/Power BI, and related institutional sources.

Major/Essential Functions
Space Planning Analytics
  • Maintain and interpret analytics for Teaching, Research, and Office space.
  • Develop or identifies recommendations to support analytic innovation.
  • Conduct GAPS analyses to identify space deficits, surpluses, and strategic opportunities.
  • Produce portfolio-level dashboards and deep-dive analyses for colleges, departments, and leadership.
New / Exploratory Space Planning Models
  • Develop and evaluate scenario models for new planning questions (e.g., hybrid work impacts, research growth/performance, course delivery changes, teaching format shifts).
  • Build sensitivity analyses, program-specific models, and multi-option evaluation frameworks.
Direct Governance Committee Support (SAC, TSSC, RSSC)
  • Prepare analytic packets, dashboards, and decision support materials for the Space Advisory Committee (SAC).
  • Support the Teaching Space Sub- Committee (TSSC) with long-term teaching space initiatives, classroom utilization, and teaching-space metrics.
  • Provide research space analytics, PI/lab metrics, and relevant benchmarking to the Research Space Sub- Committee (RSSC).
Space Performance Metrics
  • Maintain a comprehensive space metrics framework for teaching, research, and administrative space.
  • Quality control utilization, allocation ratios, and surplus/deficit indicators.
  • Ensure consistent metric definitions, data lineage, and annual review of standards.
Space Projection Model
  • Maintain the institution's Space Projection Model that forecasts 1/3/5-year space needs and supported by t the THECB space drivers.
  • Monitor data relationships in enrollment, staffing, research funding, instructional demand, and facility lifecycle data.
  • Conduct variance analyses and update assumptions quarterly.
Raider Room & 110 Teaching Space Metrics
  • Analyze classroom (110) and Raider Room scheduling, utilization, percent fill, time distribution metrics, and pedagogical fit.
  • Identify bottlenecks, peak-time pressure, room-type imbalances, and right-sizing requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar and TSSC on scheduling policy/optimization recommendations.
  • Support the Space Usage Efficiency score through collaborative efforts both internal and external.
Analytics & Data Support (Power BI/Fabric)
  • Develop, maintain, and publish certified datasets for space planning in Fabric.
  • Build reports, semantic models, and reusable analytics layers in Fabric and Power BI.
  • Ensure proper data security, refresh schedules, and user access.
Data Warehouse Quality Control (QC)
  • Perform ongoing QC of institutional data warehouse space-related tables/views: Internal Space Model, THECB, BANNER import data related to space drivers, and Space Usage Efficiency.
  • Run validation logic (schema checks, business-rule violations, missing data scans) and coordinate corrections with business-need-to-know.
SQL Systems Integration Support
  • Write SQL queries, develop ETL logic, and maintain integrations supporting the space projection model, metrics framework, dashboards, and committee datasets.
  • Support integration across Registrar, HR, Research, Facilities, and Scheduling systems.
  • Document SQL assets, schema relationships, and business rules.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Four years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of experience in space planning, campus planning, analytics, or related roles
  • Proficiency in SQL, Power BI/Fabric, data modeling, and Excel
  • Strong analytic, visualization, and communication skills
  • Experience with higher-ed space metrics and course-scheduling datasets
  • Previous support of committee-based governance
  • Familiarity with CAD/BIM data structures (read-only accepted)
  • Familiarity with data architecture structures (read-only accepted)
  • Experience with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board reporting or metrics


Pay Range
$86,800 - $112,900 - $138,900
