The Joyce and Henry Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University is located in the state-of-the-art RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, a cornerstone of CSU's RiverPark campus, where all the academic units of the College of the Arts are located. The quality of the faculty and CSU's world-class facilities bring international attention to the school, and the Schwob School regularly hosts guest artists from around the world. With about 250 music majors, it offers bachelor's degrees in performance, music education, and music (B.A.), music minors in jazz studies, music technology, and composition, as well as master's degrees in performance, a graduate-level Artist Diploma, and a Performance Certificate.

An innovative conservatory curriculum, approved by the USG Board of Regents in 2015, recognizes that the Schwob School of Music will continue to emphasize excellence in music performance across its programs. As part of a dynamic arts campus, Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music has been the host institution for several national and international conferences, including the CBDNA Regional Conference, International Trumpet Guild Conference, International Trombone Festival, International Double Reed Society Conference and the 25th Anniversary National Trumpet Competition. The Southeast Trombone Symposium and the Schwob Brass Festival are annual summer offerings. Job Summary

The Joyce and Henry Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University (GA) seeks an outstanding tuba/euphonium teacher and performer to begin August 1, 2026. This is a Non-tenure eligible, renewable full-time faculty position.

Responsibilities

Significant Duties and Responsibilities include: Teach and mentor a studio of tuba and euphonium students, including students pursuing undergraduate degrees, the Master of Music degree, and/or the graduate-level Artist Diploma or Performance Certificate. Assist in ongoing recruitment efforts to build a strong incoming class. Maintain an active performance schedule and appropriate creative activities as scholarship. Participate in school, university and professional service. Coordinate chamber music and ensemble assignments, juries, and related matters with the brass faculty and ensemble conductors. Participate as a member of the faculty brass quintet. Teach other music courses as assigned by the director of the school of music. A full teaching load for instructors at CSU is 15 hours per semester.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications include: Excellent professional credentials as a teacher and performer.; Experience in studio teaching.; Applicants will ideally have a DMA degree in tuba, euphonium, or tuba/euphonium performance, or significant professional experience in lieu of the degree.; Candidates who are ABD or who have completed a master's degree will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications include: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching at the college level and/or to candidates who have held one or more professional performance appointments.; Preference may also be given to candidates with experience in teaching a in secondary area of expertise.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates are required to submit and successfully pass a background investigation to include reference checks and verification of academic credentials (if applicable). Other additional requirements may be required based upon specific position duties:
  • A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;
  • Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.
  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
