Assistant Director of Development

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Development will focus on soliciting major gifts, write proposals, discover & qualify new prospective donors, and craft meaningful stewardship plans. This team is fast-paced, collaborative, and impact-driven. Our strategic priority is to strengthen the Eccles School's donor pipeline, raise funds for top priorities, and develop long-term relationships to build a strong foundation for future support. The Office of Alumni Relations and Development is responsible for all alumni and donor engagement and communications, as well as all fundraising for scholarships, capital campaigns, academic programs, Centers and Institutes, and student services at the Eccles
School.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a frontline fundraiser responsible for making direct solicitations of $50,000+ through face-to-face interactions and grant writing as well as discovering and qualifying prospective donors and ensuring meaningful donor stewardship.
  • Manage a portfolio and schedule 12-15 meetings per month with prospects, donors, and alumni.
  • Develop donor solicitation strategies, write proposals to alumni, friends, foundations, and companies.
  • Secure sponsorships for a variety of events that support the Eccles School's overall fundraising efforts.
  • Travel to regional markets to grow alumni engagement and develop donor support nationally.
  • Track and maintain donor records and relationships.
  • Represent the David Eccles School of Business at appropriate University activities and events
  • Work effectively in a highly motivated team environment.
  • Work with colleagues in Central Advancement including Prospect Management, Prospect Research, Annual Giving and Donor Relations.


Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences
  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communication, or a related area.
  • 6 years of directly related work experience in philanthropy; or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience in philanthropy.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills including active listening, and relationship-building skills.
  • Fundraising experience, including face-to-face solicitations or grant writing, and a successful track record of raising donations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • High ethical standards, discretion, and confidentiality in working with donor information
  • Experience with CRM database preferred.

Work Schedule Summary: Typically, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, with appointments, including travel, outside of those hours (as needed). The job duties of a development professional are predominately performed in an in-office/in-person work environment. Due to the nature of donor engagement this role may also include some evenings and weekends, especially when the college is hosting events.
