JOB TITLE:

Lifeguard - Athletics

JOB PURPOSE:

Responsibility of this position is to provide a safe swimming environment for all users at the University of Wyoming Aquatics facility. Lifeguards are scheduled 3 - 5 days per week including weekends and holidays. In-service training sessions are required to maintain working eligibility. Reports to the Aquatic Facility Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Adhere to all standards within the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program.
  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in all emergencies and first response situations.
  • Supervise aquatics activities and enforce all facility policies, rules, and regulations to ensure the safety of swimmers and guests and provide quality experiences for all.
  • Actively provide surveillance for activities within assigned zone coverage area.
  • Administer first aid as trained in necessary situations.
  • Execute general cleaning and pool maintenance on a daily basis.
  • Participate in regular required in-service training and prove capability of performing all American Red Cross Lifeguarding skills.
  • Follow established aquatics policies and procedures to ensure execution by all team members.
  • Assist with special events and programs, as assigned.
  • Participate in all types of facility audits to assist Aquatic Facility Director in comprising effective training sessions and growth opportunities for staff.
  • Must be able to work weekends, and over holiday breaks.
  • Must be able to Sub if needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Some High School Education
  • Experience:
    • No Previous Experience Required
  • Certifications:
    • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be able to swim proficiently.
  • Must have clear verbal communication skills.
  • Must be dependable, alert, confident, self-motivated, outgoing, energetic, and ability to solve problems.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff and public in a positive manner, e.g. must be tactful, consistent, and firm when enforcing pool rules and administering discipline.
  • Must attend the aquatic pre-season staff trainings.
  • Ability to accept direction and follow proper policy and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with department standards.

WORK LOCATION:

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus, understanding our location is at 7,220 feet above sea level.
