Part Time Assistant Swimming Coach

The Assistant Swimming Coach (10 month) reports to the Head Swimming Coach and will assist the Head And Assistant Swimming Coaches in directing various activities of the men's and women's swimming programs within NCAA, RMAC and Colorado School of Mines policies, guidelines, and procedures. The Assistant Swimming Coach is responsible for supporting the athletic and academic development of student-athletes while focusing on student-athlete welfare.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Late August - early May (10 months)
  • Must be able to commit at least 25 hours/week, preferably during team practice times - early mornings (6-9 am, MWRF) and later afternoons/evenings (2-6pm M-F) and weekends (sat am 7-11 am)
  • Responsibilities are not limited to but include on-deck coaching; assessing and correcting technique; motivating, listening and talking with student-athletes; video analysis and working with underwater camera equipment.
  • Administrative tasks as assigned, ie: Cara Logs, compliance paperwork, newsletters, practice data
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years previous coaching experience and/or competitive high school or collegiate swimming experience preferred


Certifications and Licenses:
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • A valid driver's license required


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A strong ability to create a positive, fun and learning environment with the team

  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • A strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes.

    Preferred Qualifications



    Education and Experience:
    • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
    • Demonstrated results leading and coaching a high-caliber sports program in a highly competitive, academic environment.
    • Minimum of 2 years previous coaching experience at the Division I or II Level or Senior National Level (club). (2 year of graduate assistantship experience equals 1 year of professional experience)


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to represent a public persona that aligns with Mines values.
    • Ability to work with a diverse community, alumni, Boosters and Mines Foundation.
    • Ability to work closely with athletic training, and staff to facilitate prevention and recovery from injury of student-athletes.
    • Ability to help with all aspects of recruiting!


    Availability
    • Ability to work more than 30 hours/week and be integrated into our team culture
    • Ability to attend coaches meetings and team meetings


    JOB DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS



    Physical Requirements:

    • Typical physical activity of coaching roles: standing for long periods of time, walking, occasional running, long work days, etc.


    Potential Environmental Conditions/Hazards:

    • Must perform job duties in and around a chlorinated pool


    SALARY
    • $25,000 August 2026- May 2027
