Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144.  Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is a thriving unit at KSU dedicated to the professional development of educators. The CETL staff is comprised of committed, collaborative scholars and leaders in educational development and SoTL, including 9 full-time faculty and staff and 4 half-time faculty fellows. In recent years, CETL has made great strides in establishing itself as a key player in the international SoTL community, becoming an official partner of ISSOTL and strengthening our SOTL Summit (now one of the largest SoTL conferences in the world). Internally, we have built capacity to support SoTL with an Associate Director, a Lead for Educational Development Scholarship and Evaluation, and a SoTL fellow, and creating several signature programs such as the SoTL Manuscript Completion Program, the KSU SoTL Scaffold, the Hopscotch for SOTL framework and web tool, the first ever integration of Terracotta with D2L, and more. The university has elevated SoTL in the strategic plan, so we are looking for a leader with a fresh vision to propel our success to new heights.

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month administrative faculty position as Associate Director for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) within the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) with a preferred start date of July 1, 2027, but as early as January 1, 2027. This open-track faculty position may be filled as either a tenured Professor or non-tenure-track appointment depending on the qualifications, scholarly record, and career aspirations of the selected candidate. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

All Appointments

• Provide leadership, vision, and strategic planning for SoTL initiatives at KSU.
• Serve on the CETL Leadership Team.
• Supervise the staff Lead for Educational Development Scholarship and Evaluation and assigned Faculty Fellows.
• Serve as a content expert and thought leader for SoTL on campus, within their academic discipline, and/or in the interdisciplinary SoTL field.
• Direct CETL's signature SoTL programs and campus-wide initiatives.
• Consult with faculty on SoTL research design and manuscript publication.
• Design, deliver, and assess SoTL workshops and webinars (e.g., getting started with SoTL, publishing your work, connections between SoTL and the science of learning).
• Direct the international SoTL Summit conference, recruiting keynotes; managing the call for proposals, review process, and conference program; and marketing and communications.
• Maintain a current understanding of trends and an active research agenda on SoTL.
• Curate electronic resources on the website as needed/relevant, including the Hopscotch 4-SoTL webtool, the SoTL Listserv, and the SoTL micro-credentials. 
• Participate, as appropriate, in key CETL initiatives (e.g., orientations, conferences, and institutes). 
• Assess institutional impact and effectiveness of SoTL programs.
• Engage in teaching and service consistent with rank, CETL, and university expectations.
   

Additional Expectations for the Tenured Position

• Maintain an active and nationally visible SoTL research agenda.
• Publish peer-reviewed scholarship.
   

All Candidates

• Earned terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, in a discipline taught at KSU.
• Minimum five years of higher education experience.
• Record of teaching excellence.
• Record of significant scholarly contributions in or about SoTL.
• Evidence of strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
   

To be Eligible for the Tenured Position

• An academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Professor in an academic department at KSU.
• Ability to meet faculty credentialing requirements for teaching.
   

• Leadership experience in SoTL.
• Experience directing conferences.
