Position DescriptionThe Department of Psychological Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in September 1, 2027. The successful candidate will be a core faculty member in the human factors psychology program, which is fully accredited by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and will recruit, mentor, and train graduate students in the Experimental Psychology graduate program (MA and PhD).The specialty area for this position is open, with preference given to research that supports Texas Tech University's strategic research themes, such as the following:Strengthening National Security: Human factors research supporting defense applications, such as human--AI teaming, trust in automation, and human interaction with cyber-physical systems. Additional areas of interest include military human performance, training and simulation, decision-making in command-and-control systems, and the usability and safety of defense technologies.Advancing One Health: Human factors research that improves the safety, effectiveness, and integration of healthcare and public health systems, including patient safety, provider workload and well-being, and the design and evaluation of health technologies. Additional interests include human-centered design for underserved healthcare delivery and interdisciplinary coordination across medical and environmental contexts.Preference may also be given to candidates whose research complements the research interests of current faculty and aligns with federal funding priorities.

About the College

About the Department/School/Area
Texas Tech University's Department of Psychological Sciences (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/psy/) has doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology (APA accredited), Counseling Psychology (APA accredited), Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, Human Factors Psychology (HFES accredited), and Social Psychology. We currently have 28 fulltime tenured and tenuretrack faculty members, 4 fulltime teachingtrack faculty members, 115+ graduate students, 1,600+ undergraduate majors, our own building with office, laboratory, and classroom space, and a newly renovated Psychology Clinic. Faculty have an excellent track record of applying for and obtaining external research funding. Our research programs encompass departmental, campus, community, and national/international collaborations. We have effective working relationships with faculty across campus, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, large area hospitals, numerous clinics and psychological-service agencies, and other multidisciplinary groups in the region.

Major/Essential Functions
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Department of Psychological Sciences, you will be expected to:
conduct an independent, productive, and programmatic research program in human factors psychology;

compete for and secure extramural research funding;
teach undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology;
mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and
provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.

Faculty Qualifications

Ph.D. in human factors psychology, experimental psychology, or a closely related field, conferred by the appointment start date.
Candidates must have a record of research productivity relevant to the field of human factors psychology, including, but not limited to, publications, book chapters, and/or grant submissions
Candidates must provide evidence of a commitment or willingness to commit to teaching excellence, including, but not limited to, experience teaching or assisting in a classroom or mentoring students

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply.

A developing or established program of research in human factors psychology, which aligns with Texas Tech University's strategic research themes and complements the research of current faculty.
Demonstrated ability or potential to compete for extramural research funding.
Demonstrated ability or potential to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in human factors and/or experimental psychology.
Demonstrated ability or potential to mentor graduate students.
