Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine educates aspiring physicians to be justice-minded, global citizens using a community-based, distributed model of education, which fosters inclusion, discovery and innovation. The UIWSOM invites applications for the School of Osteopathic Medicine Career Counselor. This position coordinates many aspects of the UIWSOM's Career Development Plan which is designed to prepare learners to be personally and professionally successful in selection of electives, residency matching and career and leadership development. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.

Description of Job Duties
1. Coordinate all aspects of a learners Career Plan including, but not limited to, advising faculty and learners on the Careers in Medicine platform, scheduling workshops, monitoring a learners progress in the residency match and assisting in their decision-making process
2. Advise learners holistically while assisting them to clarify their personal, academic, and professional career goals
3. Help learners navigate institutional policies and procedures
4. Respond to a vast array and high volume of questions each requiring knowledge of different resources and procedures through phone calls, email, walk-ins, and scheduled appointments
5. Recognize different types of crisis situations and refer learners to counseling resources as deemed appropriate
6. Work collaboratively as a team member with all UIWSOM faculty, staff and administration
7. Assist in preparation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation letters for graduating learners
8. Provide oversight of the Electronic Residency Application Service.
9. Provide support and guidance in development of the Curriculum Vitae and Personal Statement
10. Manage a central repository of career information for learners, including requirements of the residency match process
11. Build the career advising curriculum from the ground up while considering the needs specific to the DO learners it serves
12. Design career advising materials and ensure learners and faculty advisors are aware of this information through the website and email communication

9. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA
10. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

Required Education
Earned Bachelors degree in appropriate field, such as Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, Social Work, Educational Psychology, Counseling, etc., from an accredited institution.

Required Work Experience
One to three years full-time experience at an accredited university, health profession college, or medical school.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Three years full-time experience at a health profession college, or medical school.
2. Masters degree in appropriate field

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must hold a valid drivers license and have a driving history acceptable to the University insurance carrier

Work Hours
Normal work hours will be from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, however there will be the occasional need to work in the evenings or on weekends.
