Primary Purpose of Position:
The position will ensure integrity and monitor compliance with the University system of internal controls and ensure that financial system capabilities will be expended to address critical accounting and reporting needs. The position will serve as the liaison for the University and in doing so, will interact with various state agencies, state, federal, and other external auditors. The position will coordinate follow-up on recommendations from state, federal, other external auditors and the University's internal auditors.The Comptroller will plan, direct, monitor and coordinate the financial and accounting activities of the University in accordance with general accepted accounting principles, federal/state regulations, University policies/guidelines, and sound business practices. The Comptroller Department oversees the following units: Accounts Payable, Cashiers, Data Entry, Endowment/Debt Services, Federal Loans, Federal Trust and Accounting, Financial Reporting, Capital Assets, Student Accounting and Travel. The position will interact with the units and other staff on meeting the needs of the University through sound financial management and customer focused. The comptroller will also work closely with the University's Budget Director to ensure proper alignment between budgeting and accounting practices. The position will report to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance.


Minimum Education/Experience:
The preferred candidate must possess a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Certified Public Accountant is strongly preferred.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess a thorough understanding of accounting theory and practice as promulgated by the GASB and State Board of Accountancy;
At least seven (7) years of experience in finance and accounting practices;
At least 3 to 5 years of management experience; Experience in higher education or state government; Extensive knowledge of University policies and procedures related to accounting and reporting (or ability to rapidly assimilate and Experience with Banner.
