Min T/E Requirements:
Masters Degree preferred or a Bachelors degree with substantially equivalent education and experience and current NC teaching license required.

A strong record of measurable results in as a classroom teacher in a low-performing school.
A strong record of leading adult professional development (e.g. as a workshop facilitator, mentor teacher, etc.).

The School of Education supports all licensure programs across campus in the Educator Preparation Programs including undergraduate and graduate degree programs, licensure only and add-on programs and supporting all programs through accreditation and NCDPI program approval.

Primary Purpose of Position:
UNC Pembroke School of Education has been awarded a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to address the shortage of AmericanIndian teachers in the states public school districts with a large American Indian student population. This position will have administrative responsibilities for the development, growth and maintenance of the First Americans Teacher Education (FATE) Program. Responsibilities include the development, growth and maintenance of the First Americans Teacher Education (FATE) Program.

Job Description:
Established in 1887 as a school for the education of American Indians, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke serves a distinctly diverse student body and encourages inclusion and appreciation of the values of all people. The Instructional Coach will be responsible for supporting the instructional development of all pre-service and in-service teachers; developing detailed professional development plans for pre-service and in-service teachers; providing induction and mentoring services to newly certified teachers; provide licensure exam support; providing on-site visits to newly certified teachers to meet their needs by offering model lessons. Instructional support and/or informal observations; providing direction and coordination for how the curriculum can integrate culture responsiveness and reflect American Indian culture.

  • Observe classroom practice and gather data; quickly assess strengths/weaknesses and use observation data gathering to tailor support to teachers.
  • Assist FATE participants in gathering and analyzing data (quantitative and qualitative) to reflect on students' performance and teaching.
  • Design large and small group professional development (face to face and online).
  • Provide a variety of solutions to help teachers improve their practice and therefore student achievement (modeling, co-teaching, providing human/other resources, etc.)
  • Serve as a thought-partner to FATE participants on addressing school-based challenges; possibly connect with mentor/administration.
  • Build positive culture within network of teachers in the region.
  • Develop knowledge of regional and LEA resources along with the University School Partnerships (USTEP).
  • Implement structures to facilitate networking among new teachers.
  • Collaborate with LEA and FATE personnel.



This is a time-limited, grant-funded position which ends on August 2, 2026.
