Online Learning Librarian
The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seeks applications and nominations for the position of Online Learning Librarian. The campus library seeks a proactive, creative, and inventive librarian to fill a tenure track, faculty position as part of Penn State University Libraries. The person appointed to this position will be responsible for coordinating and growing University Libraries online learning initiatives as a cohesive and strategic program situated within the University Libraries information literacy, teaching, and learning program. This position is responsible for creating strategies and building partnerships to develop, assess, and maintain a robust online instruction program within University Libraries for strategic integration into online and blended courses and programs including, but not limited to, those that are part of Penn State's World Campus. Responsibilities: Provide leadership and collaborate with other librarians and a dedicated learning designer to develop and integrate learning objects into appropriate curricula, course pages, and learning management systems; Work closely with subject librarians, instructional librarians, campus librarians, and other Penn State colleagues and stakeholders to provide comprehensive online learning support to Penn State students and faculty; Provide online learning support, consulting training, and communications to library faculty, staff, and units in order to enhance the instructional efficiency and learning outcomes of University Libraries; Evaluate new instructional technologies for possible application to Library instructional services; Collaborate with colleagues to integrate Library content, services, and resources into Penn State learning management system(s); Partner with subject librarians and campus librarians serving online and blended programs to support the development of online instructional materials; Evaluate effectiveness of learning objects and other content developed as part of overall learning outcomes assessment; Develop, implement, and facilitate workshops and presentations on the pedagogy of online and blended instruction; Pursue professional development to keep current on trends and developments in the pedagogy and delivery of online and blended learning and information literacy; Actively participate in campus and community discussions related to educational technologies and ensure open communication and collaboration with campus instructional technology units. Qualifications Required: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program, or a Master's degree in a related field; Experience teaching information literacy through in-person or online instruction; Experience working with learning management systems; Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; Ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a collegial environment; Strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion; The potential to achieve the requirements for tenure and promotion in the areas of librarianship, research, and service; Some evening and/or weekend work will be required in order to meet the needs of online learners. Desirable: Educational background or second Master's degree in Education or related field; Experience training and supervising staff, interns, or student assistants; Participation in any of the ACRL Information Literacy Immersion Program tracks; Experience building partnerships to enhance learning and student success; Experience with outcomes assessment of student learning; Experience with curriculum development.
