Essential Functions:
The primary purpose of the organizational unit is to provide police and security, environmental health and safety and emergency management services for North Carolina Central University.

Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of law enforcement experience. Certification as a law enforcement officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of criminal and traffic laws, knowledge of investigation techniques and case preparation requirements for routine traffic and criminal cases, must have knowledge of equipment provided by the Department and its care, knowledge of the process for obtaining and serving search warrants preservation, ability to conduct crime prevention programs, ability to use conflict resolution and mediation skills as needed during the patrol shift. Ability to communicate effectively to witnesses, victims, and detainees/armrests, other officers, the community, management, and others through interpersonal interactions and in writing, ability to plan and conduct community programs; ability to identify problems, identify potential options for resolution and the ability to use discretion during criminal investigations, arrests, warrant service, and interaction with members of the community.
