Job Summary
The candidate will work closely on a daily basis with the GLANSIS Program Manager and Research Associate as well as with the broader GLANSIS Team (NOAA Principal Investigators) to provide data management and analysis support for the team. The candidate will be primarily responsible for data entry as well as synthesis and review of scientific and management literature related to established and potential Great Lakes nonindigenous species. The candidate will also be involved in quality control and may have opportunity to engage in literature-based research on patterns and trends in invasion biology.

Who We Are
The Great Lakes Aquatic Nonindigenous Species Information System (GLANSIS - www.glerl.noaa.gov/r...glansis/glansis.html) is a both a regional node of the national USGS NAS database and a NOAA project to synthesize available science-based information on aquatic invasive species both established within as well as posing a threat to the Great Lakes region.

Responsibilities*
The candidate will provide support for maintenance of the database beginning with:
  • Entering reference data into the database.
  • Extracting and entering impact data into a new impact component of the database.
  • Entering map data or organizing larger datasets for bulk upload.
  • Literature review
  • Preparation of qualitative and quantitative organism impact assessments and risk assessments.
  • Updating species profiles.
  • Conducting data analysis, particularly for geospatial data.

Required Qualifications*
Master's Degree (or equivalent experience) in biology or related field. Capacity to work in both a team environment and independently. Meticulous attention to detail and quality control. Capacity for conducting independent literature review. Familiarity with ArcGIS and spatial data analysis.

Desired Qualifications*
Experience/excellence with data entry, database programs, technical writing, invasion biology, aquatic biology, and/or natural resources management/policy will be given preference.

Work Schedule
Flexible within M-F, 6am to 6pm

This position works out of the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, Ann Arbor, MI
