Position Summary:
The individual filling this position will provide leadership for the Agricultural Commodity Risk Management programs in College of Agricultural & Life Sciences (CALS) and the Barker Capital Trading and Management program in College of Business and Economics (CBE). The Endowed Chair may teach up to two courses each year to enhance the programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the Endowed Chair will provide leadership to further the development of the risk management curricula and mentor undergraduate and graduate students participating in the experiential risk management trading program.
The Endowed Chair will conduct rigorous research related to agricultural commodity markets on a global, national and regional scale: including, but not limited to, price forecasting, impacts of changing policies and macroeconomic factors, structural changes in markets, the role of and strategies for speculation, derivatives, options, and futures trading in managing price and supply chain risks. It is expected that the research program will be funded through nationally-competitive grants and the research results published in high quality journals. It is also expected that the chair will supervise graduate thesis research.
The Endowed Chair will provide important outreach to regional stakeholders, including but not limited to commodity groups, agribusinesses, producers, financial institutions, market participants and policy makers who may benefit from expertise in active risk management practices.


Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in agricultural economics, economics, finance, or a related field by the time of hire.
Strong evidence of an outstanding record of scholarly research in the area of risk management and agricultural commodity and financial markets.
Evidence of success at garnering extramural grant funding.


Preferred Qualifications:
Research and experience sufficient to merit appointment at the University of Idaho at the rank of either Associate or preferably Full Professor while meeting requirements for tenure at the university.
Experience communicating research findings to non-academic audiences.
