Position Information
The Academic Senate completes the shared governance mandate of the UC Board of Regents, to exercise direct control over academic matters of central importance to the University. The Senate is comprised of the Executive Council and more than 26 standing committees (and ad hoc committees). The Academic Senate has oversight responsibility for mission critical policies including curricula, instruction, course approval, admissions, faculty promotion and tenure. Under the general direction and guidance of the Executive Director, the incumbent will learn to provide analytical and administrative resource support for committee operations. Since the committee chairs and membership rotate from year to year, the Analyst will: -Provide continuity and historical perspective necessary to accommodate changes and maintain consistency; -Conduct research, provide comparative reports, statistical analyses and historical summaries, and make judgments, decisions and recommendations that are necessary for smooth and consistent administrative oversight; -Serve as a resource Analyst to the chairs, committee members and campus community on policies and procedures in the full range of committee responsibilities and duties; -Maintain a complete record of all actions and decisions in accordance with Senate and university requirements. The entry-level Analyst, while assigned to support specific committees, is also called upon to function as a member of the Academic Senate Office team. As such, the Analyst will participate in activities that relate to the Academic Senate as a whole and is expected to assist all committee members, colleagues, and campus community members with a variety of needs associated with Academic Senate Office operation as well as provide effective back up during peak periods, absence of peers, and/or filling in during vacancy. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Analyst learns to be responsible for assuring up to date knowledge and smooth operation during back up of assigned colleague(s). Additionally, the Analyst is expected to accept rotational committee assignments based upon operational priorities, needs and/or cross-training efforts. 60% Policy & Resource Analyst who provides analytical and administrative support to a portfolio of Senate standing committees: Committee on Rules & Jurisdiction, Committee on Memorials & Resolutions, Committee on Scholarships & Honors, Committee on Distinguished Teaching, Committee on Distinguished Campus Service, and Faculty Research Lecturer Committee. 25% Academic Senate Office General Administrative Support & Liaison Providing general administrative support, the Analyst will handle daily office operations. 15% Divisional Meetings, Calendar and Event Coordination for the Divisional Chair, and the Academic Senate Office. Due to budget restrictions, the position is limited to $41,300 to $48,500.


Minimum Requirements
Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
Basic communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Basic skills to analyze and research information and learn to synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
Acquiring knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
Basic program and project management skills.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Skills to learn organization-specific and other computer application programs.
Proficiency with personal computer, creating/formatting/manipulating spreadsheets, creating/manipulating/reporting/querying databases.
Progressive administrative experience in an office environment providing comprehensive administrative support for staff and/or faculty.
Demonstrated skills in maintaining complex calendars and setting up meetings and events in an efficient and timely manner.
Demonstrated skills in accurate record keeping with strict attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively in an environment where there are frequent interruptions both by telephone and walk-in traffic.
Demonstrated skills in independently researching questions and making appropriate contacts for problem solving.
Successful experience interpreting and applying complex policies.
Ability to communicate in a professional manner to facilitate Academic Senate and University business in a polite and cordial custom. Ability to professionally answer telephones, respond to inquiries and direct calls to other staff members and other departments.
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Ability to work in a team setting and cope professionally with distractions by co- workers performing their duties, committee meetings, questions, telephone conversations and visitors.
Ability to interact with diverse and controversial issues and people in a professional and amiable manner.


Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated extensive administrative experience in an office environment providing administrative support for staff and/or faculty.

Experience with analyzing policy issues, UC policy and procedures, and other directives and forming solid recommendations.Working knowledge of UC and UCR purchasing and travel applications.
