The Office of Innovation Commercialization is proud to host the Life Sciences Business Development Center ' a 14,000 square-foot facility that includes wet labs, offices, shared equipment, common areas and a lively atmosphere for innovation ' all dedicated to incubating great ideas through its innovative startup companies.
We are excited to be closely involved in Augusta University intellectual property commercialization-related activities with companies from the Fortune 100 to the newest startup firm.
Job Summary
This position includes cradle-to-grave responsibilities for a portfolio of patents and technologies. The Technology Transfer Associate (TTA) will license, write options and catalyze collaborations with companies. The TTA is expected to have service-focused interactions with faculty. This person will assess intellectual property and marketing landscapes of new disclosures. The TTA will write marketing pieces for the OIC website, brochures and perform other marketing activities.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
Actively market AU innovations to the private sector.
Draft and negotiate intellectual property options and license agreements.
Perform intellectual property mining, analysis, and marketing landscapes.
Foster and facilitate entrepreneurial activities.
Provide consultative assistance to faculty, staff, and students around intellectual property issues.
Develop marketing pieces for the OIC website, develop brochures, and generate other materials in support of OIC's marketing efforts.
Provide broad-based intellectual property support in such areas as basic sponsored research, clinical sponsored research, material transfer agreements, confidential disclosure agreements, inter-institutional agreements, etc.
Assist the Director and Associate Vice President as needed.
Perform all other related duties/tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in life sciences and a minimum of one year of related work experience as well as business experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Must possess initiative and creativity.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational, negotiation, multi-tasking, prioritization, drafting, business, and critical-thinking skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to negotiate with the private sector on a daily basis and serve in a "deal maker" role.
Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and decision-making and work with minimal supervision.
Must be a self-driven, highly motivated team player who can speak "science to business" and speak "business to science".
Ability to work in a high-pressure environment negotiating and managing a large volume of agreements while creatively overcoming difficulties.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Pay Band: B15
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
