Job Description
Herbert College of Agriculture (Herbert) seeks a dynamic individual interested in recruiting undergraduate students for the College. The successful applicant will work closely with the Dean's staff focused on advising, careers, alumni, employers, student life, and recruiting personnel in other colleges and the University Admissions office. The Coordinator position will be housed in the Dean's office along with specialists in advising, communications, employer relations, and recruiting. This is a full-time, 12-month salaried position with commensurate benefits.


Responsibilities
Recruit undergraduate students into Herbert by developing and using methods to achieve Herberts's recruitment strategies. Develop, lead, and attend on and off-campus recruitment activities and events such as college fairs, high school visits, field days, etc. Coordinate Herbert's recruitment efforts with non-college entities such as FFA, 4-H, UT Extension, and community partners. Work with Herbert's eight academic departments to coordinate their off campus recruiting activities. Develop and maintain effective relationships with high school counselors and agriculture teachers that lead to desired recruitment.

Develop presentations, and work with communications specialists inside and outside of Herbert for production of recruitment materials including hard copy and electronic (e.g., website, social media) messaging that results in desirable levels of a diverse student body. Engage in a collaborative effort with the Herbert Student Services Team to produce content for updating Herbert's webpage and other accounts. Gather and use information from appropriate sources, including campus and social media, to assess and refine the strategic recruiting plan and improve its effectiveness. Develop relationships with Herbert's Marketing and Communications staff to help develop branded opportunities that establish a consistent feel across all of Herbert's efforts.

Assist with Herbert events and initiatives, such as Graduation, Career Fair, Living Learning Community, Awards Reception, Scholarship Banquet, Open House, and Orientation sessions and other Dean's Office support as needed.

Participate in professional development opportunities on and off campus, attend conferences, and actively participate in professional organizations, such as the Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association (CIVSA) and the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (SACRAO). Perform special projects assigned by Herbert Leadership, act as a representative of Herbert Dean's Office on institute or university committees, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: Experience directly related to the job duties
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge and ability to use software and databases to identify student recruitment areas.
    • Ability to positively network with students, teachers, and guidance counselors plus college faculty, staff and students.
    • Strong organization skills; Ability to collect and consolidate data in clear and understandable reports using tables, charts, and narratives.
    • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint or equivalents and ability to learn new software.
    • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate through electronic communications.
    • Knowledge or ability to learn challenges and barriers for students to attend UTK/UTIA, and skills to effectively address those challenges and barriers.
    • Ability to effectively work in teams of varying education and background.
    • Ability to conceive, develop, and conduct programs and events.
    • Ability to work with faculty, staff and students to promote a professional environment
    • Ability to follow and appropriately apply policies and procedures.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and experience in recruitment, admissions, high school guidance counseling or teaching; experience/background in agriculture or natural resources.

    • Skilled at reading people and translating that knowledge to provide proper support.
    • Empathy skills.
    • Creative thinking skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Anticipated hiring range: $52,000-$57,000
