This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.
Purpose of Position
The Accountant I provides financial support to the Facilities Management (FM) department by performing detailed reviews, reconciliations, and financial analyses. This role ensures compliance with university policies and accounting standards while assisting with procurement, budgeting, and special projects.
Essential Functions
Review, analyze, and correct discrepancies in the allocation of expenditures, encumbrances, and revenues across cost centers.
Perform financial reconciliations of departmental operations.
Reviews contracts, purchase orders, and payment vouchers for accuracy, and compliance with policies.
Support departmental staff by responding to budgetary and financial inquiries.
Responsible for the procurement process for FM departments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Assists in the preparation of financial reports and the department's annual operating budget.
Contribute to various special projects as assigned.
Collaborate with other university teams (e.g., AP, AR, procurement) to ensure smooth financial operations.
Monitor and ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), as well as university financial policies and procedures.
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
and
Experience: No prior experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year in a business environment.
Proficient in all MS Office Suite products, specifically Excel.
Familiar with Finance ERP systems, specifically Peoplesoft, procurement systems, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Demonstrates creative and conceptual thinking skills, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Manages time effectively, juggling multiple priorities, to consistently execute high quality deliverables.
