The Senior Data Analyst plays a critical role in analyzing and visualizing data to support data-informed decision making across both instructional and non-instructional departments at CU Denver | Anschutz. The position involves developing interactive dashboards to support data-driven insights. Responsibilities also include preparing and delivering regular and ad-hoc reports for internal and external constituents, ensuring the accuracy and quality of institutional submissions to state, federal, and college-level entities. The role requires knowledge of SQL-based databases and applications, with an emphasis on creating queries, developing dashboards, modeling, predictive analytics, and troubleshooting.

Senior Data Analyst:

What you will do:
  • Respond to requests for information and analysis from within CU Denver and CU Anschutz (administration, school/colleges, faculty, staff, and students) by combining, analyzing, and interpreting data resulting from operational activities of CU Denver | Anschutz to provide information that supports institutional planning, policy formulation and decision making.
  • Prepare mandatory and ad hoc analyses and reports for CU System administration, state/federal agencies, and other external constituencies.
  • Organize, combine, summarize, and analyze data about students and/or faculty/staff from a variety of sources, including identification of new or enhanced sources as needed.
  • Design and adjust data models to respond flexibly to a constantly evolving and dynamic analytics agenda.
  • Extract, transform, and load data from various sources, perform statistical analyses, create predictive/prescriptive models, and create data visualizations (e.g., dashboards, reports) to support and inform decision-making.
  • Analyze data trends, identify patterns, and translate complex findings into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations for institutional and academic leaders.
  • Provide technical support to other team members and offer training on data analysis tools and methodologies within your expertise.
  • Lead and participate in projects, contributing to strategic planning and program evaluation efforts.
  • Must be able to use a variety of tools to present, summarize, and manipulate data (including creating tables, charts, graphs, data models, and interactive data visualizations).

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, social sciences, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 1 (one) year of professional level experience in data analysis and reporting.
  • 1 (one) year of experience working with SQL, SAS, SPSS or other data management or data warehousing tools.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Five years of professional level experience in data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in data visualization tools, particularly Tableau.
  • Experience designing reports in COGNOS.
  • Experience in higher education analytics or similar role.
  • Experience analyzing human resources and/or student related data.
  • Experience creating predictive or prescriptive analytics models.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in using data from data warehouses/relational databases and assembling data from a variety of sources.
  • Understanding of relational database concepts and queries.
  • Ability to analyze implications of changes in methods, input data, and policies.
  • Proven skills in statistical methods, predictive analytic models, and/or related analytic techniques.

Conditions of Employment
  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements
  • The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work;often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $80,000 - $90,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
