Location
Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.
Job Summary
Provides professional and technical expertise in hazardous materials management in support of the University's Environmental and Occupational Safety. Responsible for implementing
and managing the University's hazardous waste, hazardous materials, and universal waste management programs. Ensuring the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal
of waste materials in full compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, KSU/USG policies, and industry best practices.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: -
1. Performs waste collection and disposal operations including identification, classification and segregation of hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, regulated medical waste and recyclable materials
2. Coordinates timely pick-up and disposal of hazardous wastes through University approved vendors
3. Maintains and update hazardous wastes inventories and supplies
4. Conducts regular inspections of campus laboratories, shops, and other facilities to verify compliance with RCRA, DOT, EPA, and state hazardous-waste regulations
5. Provides technical guidance to faculty, staff, and students on proper waste handling, packaging, labeling, and disposal procedures
6. Accurately maintains hazardous materials waste records including waste manifests, training records, and regulatory documentation in the University's database
7. Prepares and submits regulatory reports as required
8. Develops and delivers training on hazardous waste materials management, universal waste and other related EHS topics
9. Serves as a resource to departments for questions regarding hazardous waste, including waste minimization and spill prevention
10. Responds to and investigates hazardous materials incidents such as spills or leaks
11. Coordinates initial spill containment, cleanup, and follows-up on corrective actions in accordance with HAZWOPER protocols and KSU procedures
12. Supports the planning and implementation of emergency response exercises to ensure readiness
13. Participates in university safety committees, as assigned
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Occupational Health and Safety, Life Sciences, Environmental Health Science, Physical Science, Chemistry or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license
Required Experience
Five (5) years related work experience.

An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP)
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training
Hazardous Materials Transportation training (DOT)
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training (HAZWOPER)
Proposed Salary
The minimum of the salary range is $63,840. Offers are based on relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Able to review and classify hazardous wastes
Able to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time and meet assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
General knowledge and understanding of hazardous material safety principles, risk assessment, hazard analysis, and incident investigation
Knowledge of hazardous and universal waste rules and regulations
Knowledge and ability to properly label, organize and store wastes
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Proficient in waste management software and safety data sheet management software (or willingness to learn)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills, phone, and e-mail etiquette
