The successful candidate will teach 4 undergraduate courses per academic year (2 fall and 2 spring). The undergraduate teaching portfolio includes courses in structural engineering including statics, strength of materials, structural analysis and freshman and senior level design courses. In addition, the successful candidate will manage the department's structural and hydraulic laboratories.
Instructor
What you will do:

Ongoing laboratory organization, safety, and support with the ability to complete routine technical tasks and experiments supporting research and teaching for the Department of Civil Engineering.

Teach 4 courses per academic year in the Department of Civil Engineering & Construction.

Manage the Department of Civil Engineering laboratory budget and expenditures, ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and compliance with university policies and procedures.

Supervise teaching assistants to help develop, coordinate, and administer structural material laboratories for civil and construction courses.
-
Perform regular inspections and coordinate maintenance as needed for the laboratory equipment system.
-
Provide laboratory equipment standard operating procedures training for students and researchers.
-
Advise undergraduate and graduate students on research plans and the implementation of ASTM Standards.
-
Act as the point of contact for environment, health, and safety to ensure compliance with ABET accreditation and AHEC standards.

Manage the laboratory schedule to accommodate the needs of courses and researchers.

Coordinate the ordering, receiving, and disposal of materials with researchers and AHEC.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Master's degree
-
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university.
-
Teaching experience at the undergraduate level in an engineering program.
-
Research experience in material science and structural engineering.
-
Proficiency in operating and maintaining material testing machines, including associated pumps and controllers.
-
Experience mentoring undergraduate students in research projects.
Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the master's degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications to Possess (Preferred Qualifications)

Master's degree in structural engineering.

Experience in calibrating and maintaining technical laboratory equipment and functions.

Experience with clerical tasks including printing and filing reports and data entry.

Computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft office suite.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be able to complete laboratory tasks using clever and unconventional approaches.

Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff at all levels throughout the institution.

Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance access and engagement.

Construction, automobile mechanic, or related Industry-specific knowledge.

The ability to learn and follow specific scientific techniques using technical equipment with accuracy and efficiency.

Ability to prepare samples, solutions, cultures and specimens and ensuring safe disposal of waste.

Outstanding attention to detail including organization, multitasking, and prioritization.

Ability to work independently.

Strong time management skills.

Staying up to date with relevant scientific developments that can improve the efficiency of lab operations.

Ability to monitor and report on experiments when required.
Conditions of Employment

This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $75,000 - $80,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
