Merced College is seeking a part-time Instructional Support Coordinator to join our Los Banos Campus team in support of our $670,000 Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) and Open Educational Resources (OER) grant initiative! This position plays a vital role in helping faculty adopt and develop OER materials, track project goals, and promote sustainable access to free, high-quality instructional resources for students.

The Instructional Support Coordinator will assist with mapping ZTC pathways, maintaining project documentation, organizing workshops, and coordinating with faculty, instructional designers, and library staff. General Description:
Under the direction of the Dean of Instruction, performs a variety of coordination and clerical duties associated with the planning and organizing credit and noncredit classes. The incumbent provides program information and assistance to incoming students, faculty, and employees.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Receives visitors and calls to provide instructional information where judgement and knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations are necessary
  • Works with potential students and completes preliminary determination of eligibility to participate in instructional programs
  • Develops working knowledge of special terminology related to instructional programs
  • Orders, receives, issues, and maintains instructional supplies
  • Prepares and organizes classrooms and materials for students, keeping instructional areas clean and orderly
  • Assist in conducting classroom surveys and compiles data
  • Schedules meetings, prepares agendas, and other information for meetings
  • Participates in meetings and serves as a liaison with community agencies to promote instructional programs
  • Collaborates with outreach to promote programs
  • Coordinates and participates in fundraising activities
  • Collects, complies, and digest information pertaining to related departmental or educational activities and prepares drafts of reports, including the coordination of a class schedule for noncredit programs
  • Aids on submitting student attendance sheets for noncredit programs
  • Assembles data, establishes and maintains filing system on a variety of subject matters
  • Performs a wide variety of clerical and coordination duties for the Dean and faculty involving the use of independent judgement and an understanding of departmental and district policies, procedures, functions, and operations
  • Types a variety of materials, initiates and answers routine letters and correspondence independently, and duplicates written material
  • Prepares certificates, publications, forms, bulletins, and brochures relating to the area programs
  • Operates computers, a variety of software, and other office equipment; requests for any equipment repair
  • May train, assign, and supervise student workers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Knowledge of:
  • Effective communication techniques used in writing and speaking to convey complex information, such as program eligibility criteria and class schedules, in a way that is easy to understand
  • Compliance requirements of assigned special programs
  • Current office technology and standard office equipment
  • Policies, procedures, and regulations related to instructional programs
  • Terminology and practices related to instructional programs and class scheduling
  • How to effectively organize and prepare classrooms for instruction, including ensuring the necessary materials, supplies, and equipment are available
  • Scheduling, organizing, and facilitating meetings, including preparation of agendas and coordination of logistics


Ability to:
  • Organize, train, and direct student workers
  • Receive a variety of information which may be of confidential nature
  • Work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Interact with faculty, staff, and the public in a helpful, courteous, and friendly manner
  • Identify problems and recommend solutions
  • Adhere to district policies, procedures, and rules regarding budgeting, purchasing, and grant administration methods and practices
  • Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues


Typical Qualifications


Required:
  • Associate's degree AND at least one year of applicable experience
    OR
  • High school diploma OR GED AND four (4) years of applicable experience
    OR
  • The equivalent education and experience
AND
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
