The University of Colorado Boulder is searching for a PRN Advanced Practice Nurse! This role is a professional position involving the practice of medicine/advanced practice nursing as a member of the staff of Medical Services at CU Boulder. Duties are performed according to established standards and ethics of medical and nursing practice, personal qualifications, and the administrative policies and operational procedures of Medical Services. Within this framework, duties are carried out with considerable latitude for independent professional judgment and action.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Patient Care
- Perform thorough and accurate medical evaluations and craft a treatment plan in accordance with medical guidelines and standards. Involves communicating with and educating patients regarding their medical condition, follow-up care, and preventive measures. Patient care also includes EMR documentation: Prepare and maintain thorough, accurate, and clear medical records which justify the diagnoses, treatment(s) and billing codes. Clinical decision making: Make appropriate use of Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, Physical Therapy, and other ancillary services in clinical decision making in accordance with the standard practice of medicine. Consultation: Readily seek appropriate consultation for unusual or unresponsive cases while following established referral procedures.
Collaboration
- Participate with other staff nurse practitioners and physicians sharing a proportionate patient load and clinical responsibilities.
Continuing Education & Updating of Credentials
- Participate in accredited continuing medical education to acquire and maintain the professional knowledge and skills needed to carry out the responsibilities of the role. Maintain current and appropriate nurse practitioner credentials including a Colorado Nursing License, prescriptive authority, National Certification and DEA registration.
Quality Improvement
- Participate in the implementation of the Medical Clinic Process Improvement activities.
What You Should Know
The work schedule for this position is variable and based upon demand for patient care. The position will be scheduled 1-5 days per week, 4-8 hours per day. The incumbent will commit to availability to work at least 1-2 days per week during the academic year, with exceptions for University breaks and closures. Scheduled hours are between 7:30am and 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. There are no regular or required evening or weekend hours. This is a temporary (6-month) position starting as early as August 1st, 2025, and extending as late as February 28, 2026.
What We Can Offer
The pay range for this PRN role is $49.33 - $73.99 per hour. Salary is dependent upon candidate's years of APN licensure.

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require
- Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner with State of Colorado upon hire.
- 2 years of experience as an Advance Practice Nurse.
- Full prescriptive authority in state of Colorado upon hire.
- DEA Registration.
- National certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse (such as ANCC).
- Current BLS certification.
- Eligible for clinical privileges as determined by the WHS Credentialing and Privileging Department.

- Ability to communicate and relate well with staff and students in an academic environment.
- Basic functional computer skills (experience with Windows based systems).
- Willingness and ability to meet demanding work schedules.
- Willingness to participate in special clinic situations such as travel clinic, walk-in, patient triage, etc.
- Dedication to patient safety and positive engagement with patients, students, parents and staff.
