Job Summary
The College of Music at the University of Colorado Boulder is hiring an Assistant Teaching Professor of Composition. The initial contract for this full-time position will begin January 1, 2026, and end April 30, 2028. This position will be eligible for reappointment review and renewable for three-year contract periods thereafter.

Who We Are
The College of Music, founded in 1920, is recognized as one of the top comprehensive music schools in the country. The College of Music offers seven degree programs in over 28 fields of study, at the bachelor's level through the doctorate. Our dedicated and encouraging community of 550 degree-seeking students, 70 full-time faculty, 30 part-time faculty, and 30 professional, technical and administrative staff produces over 350 performances and numerous guest lectures, master-classes, and outreach events each year!

The Composition department supports creatives of all sound mediums who benefit from working in a supportive, collaborative environment with mentors across numerous disciplines and aesthetics. Degree programs include a BM, MM, and DMA in Composition, and the Composition department has its very own contemporary music concert series called CU Boulder SoundWorks. This position may have the opportunity to collaborate with other areas within the college, such as the Thompson Jazz Studies Program. This position will also teach courses for our new BA degrees in Music Production and Songwriting.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Teaching in areas of expertise including composition and music technology courses.
- Weekly Applied lessons in Composition or Songwriting.
- Serving on graduate student committees overseeing thesis and dissertation work.
- Serving on College and University committees.
What We Can Offer
Salary will be $60,000 per academic year. Onboarding assistance is available within department guidelines.

What We Require
Applicant must have a Bachelor and Master of Music degree with an emphasis in composition or jazz studies. A record of professional experience as a composer. Experience teaching individual music lessons at the collegiate level. Education or experience with Music Production Studies.
