Salary Range: $69,087 - $79,116 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary

Provide law enforcement services, health, safety and protection to the real property of all members and visitors of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Promote a positive atmosphere conductive to the academic and social goals of the campus community. To be the first line contact with victims of crime and emergencies, to provide assistance, information, and direction to all members and visitors of the campus community.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Patrol by vehicle and on foot all properties owned or leased by the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to detect and deter criminal activity, and to promote a sense of safety/security.
  • Respond to and investigate reports of criminal activity. Enforce federal, state, and local laws from petty offenses to felonies and arrest, release, or incarcerate offenders. Enforce traffic, parking, and campus regulations.
  • Govern vehicle and pedestrian traffic through enforcement of the Colorado Motor Vehicle Code and campus traffic regulations. Enforcement is carried out by the issuing of summonses, verbal and/or written warnings.
  • Conduct interviews and interrogations of victims, complainants, witnesses and suspects within the guidelines of current legal practices.
  • Write reports documenting investigations of criminal and/or suspicious activity for actual or suspected violations of laws and institutional rules and regulations. Prepare cases for presentation in municipal, county, and district courts. Be prepared to testify as to their accuracy.
  • Contact, assist and control intoxicated, assaulting, and resistive citizens using verbal skills and physical restraints. Respond to and settle verbal and physical disputes in manner to prevent future problems.
  • Provide assistance and information to the campus community and its visitors in the areas of crime prevention, personal safety and general security. To approach persons who engage in inappropriate or illegal behavior and modify behavior through education or enforcement.
  • Maintain and demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of laws and practices. Maintain currency in firearms and non-lethal arrest and control tactics, first aid and CPR.
  • Respond to alarms of intrusion, fire and maintenance as well as any other internal security systems.

Qualifications
  • Must have current, valid Colorado POST Certification (provide a copy of current certification with the application) AND One (1) year of law enforcement work experience as it relates to the work assignment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a current, valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • No Felony convictions, domestic violence convictions, acquiring more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points with the last two years on a driver's license.
  • No alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years.
  • Police experience in Higher Education is ideal.
  • Highly qualified applicants will have Patrol experience.
