Non Tenure-Track 10-Month Temporary Full-Time instructor Position
Pasadena City College is hiring a Temporary Full-Time, Non- Tenure-Track Noncredit Construction Instructor commencing with the 2025-2026 academic year. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE NONCREDIT CONSTRUCTION INSTRUCTOR:

  1. Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills among students through appropriate assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settings.
  2. Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate.
  3. Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established consultation office hours.
  4. Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department, college, and district goals; implement the student performance objectives as listed on the official course outline of record.
  5. Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum, and student learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports related to course and student progress in a timely manner.
  6. Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, with discipline faculty; order instructional materials according to campus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery.
  7. Revise and update course content and materials of instruction in accordance with new theory, application, and industry developments within the discipline or area of specialization.
  8. Update syllabi; collaborate with discipline faculty on a regular basis to assess and revise measurable student performance indicators for each course.
  9. May participate in curriculum and program development; may provide input into the development of student learning outcomes.
  10. May attend and participate on committees and in department, division, campus, and district meetings.
  11. May participate in articulation and matriculation related activities.
  12. Perform related duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
  1. Ability to adapt varying pedagogical approaches to meet the needs of students with differing learning modalities and abilities
  2. Knowledge of current practices in distance education including learning management systems such as Canvas
  3. Experience with Student Learning Outcomes and assessment methods
  4. Outstanding interpersonal skills and a desire and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and other members of the campus community
  5. Ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment with students of varying academic preparation and learning styles
  6. Knowledgeable about culturally sustaining pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging African American, Latinx, and Indigenous groups who are historically underrepresented and underserved
  7. Recent experience working with minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shapes patterns of participation and outcomes
  8. Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students
  9. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  10. Experience and proficiency in current teaching and learning techniques





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of professional experience
OR
  • Associate's degree AND six (6) years of professional experience
OR
  • Valid California Community College Instructor Credential
OR
  • The equivalent
Degree must be shown as conferred on transcript. Some degrees may require equivalency. When equivalency is requested, the file will be reviewed by PCC's Equivalency Committee. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide ample documentation to support equivalent qualifications

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience within the industry of building construction
  • Knowledge and proficiency with construction technology and tools
  • Proficiency with OSHA regulations and certifications
  • Experience with the North American Building Trades Union's Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3)
  • Experience teaching or training adults in a classroom, workshop, or on-the-job setting


THE ASSIGNMENT:
  • 10 Months, 100% - Non Tenure-track position beginning August 2025.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Successful completion of Livescan clearance and TB screening
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per government codes 3100-3109
  • Meeting applicable eligibility requirements under CalPERS or CalSTRS if you are a current or former member
  • Board of Trustees approval
