JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Medicine, Department of Preventive Medicine is seeking a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant or Associate Professor, as appropriate. This position aims to develop an independent research program in maternal and child health. This may include areas such as respiratory disease, cardiometabolic disorders, neurodevelopment, nutrition, addiction, prenatal and postnatal outcomes, or other socio-behavioral outcomes of high impact.
Responsibilities
Successful applications will develop an independent and collaborative research program in CANDLE (Conditions Affecting Neurocognitive Development and Learning in Early Childhood), an active longitudinal birth cohort of 1500 mother-child dyads based in Shelby County, TN (www.candlestudy.com) and a member of the NIH-ECHO (Environmental influences of Child Health Outcomes) consortium. CANDLE mothers and children have been followed uninterrupted for the past 16 years. The cohort includes 65% African American representation and has extensive data collection from mothers and children over time and with linkage to a participant biorepository. The role does not exclude candidates from maintaining existing research collaborations or building new collaborations.
Although this is primarily a research position, the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the academic mission of Department of Preventive Medicine and the Division of Epidemiology through teaching, student and faculty mentorship, and departmental service. A joint or secondary appointment in a clinical department may be feasible, as appropriate.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Doctorate in epidemiology, public health, medicine, nursing, health psychology, or a similar clinical research domain.
EXPERIENCE: Meritorious record of publications and external funding consistent with rank; Experience proposing and implementing epidemiologic and clinical studies such as observational studies, diagnostic studies, or randomized trials; Experience working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body; Excellent oral and written communication skills.
