Nurse Education Department Chairperson/Program Coordinator

  • Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new classroom, clinical and lab staff
  • Advise on the instructional competency of all applicants for vacant positions within the Program after consultation with members of the program unit;

    • Observe clinical and classroom instruction of day-option faculty for purposes of professional growth
  • Submit the preferred subject matter, preparation and class schedule of unit members within the Program consistent with Article XII;
    • Recommend teaching assignments of faculty to the Associate Dean of Nursing, and Division Dean as needed.
    • Coordinate with the Associate Dean of Nursing and other faculty and staff for assist scheduling of all day, evening, weekend, online and video conference classes for the nursing program as needed.

  • Supervise the development of instructional materials and assist in conducting research on the effectiveness of the instructional program consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the college, the requirements of external and/or regulatory agencies and Article VII of this agreement;

    • Provide academic leadership to the department faculty and students.

    • Coordinate the activities of the teaching teams within the nursing program.

    • Maintain an open-door policy to facilitate student and faculty needs.

    • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Nursing and the Nursing Department members to maintain a record system, periodically review and revise them.

    • Collaborate with the nursing faculty to evaluate the selection of nationally normed tests.

    • Supervise the process for the annual graduate follow up study follow-up.

    • Serve as a consultant to the Admission's Office in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Nursing and the Division Dean as needed.

    • Participate in Admission Department Information Sessions for prospective students

    • Collaborate with associate dean, evening nursing coordinator and nursing faculty to plan and attend Advisory Board meetings.

    • Advise nursing students as needed.
  • Instruct courses or portions thereof within the program as appropriate;

  • Assist in the implementation of the following evaluation processes as contained in Article XIII of the contract;

    • Collect and evaluate course materials for completion only.
  • Encourage faculty to develop new methods of instruction.
  • Plan and conduct Nurse Education Department & Curriculum meetings.
  • Participate in team meetings as well as Ad-hoc committees.
  • Participate in college committees.
  • Schedule and attend inter-agency meetings as needed.
  • Member Associate Degree Nursing Chairpersons Group - ADN Council
  • Act as a resource person for the Nursing Advisory Committee.
  • Participate in community and professional organizations.
  • Supervise faculty in clinical, classroom and laboratory placements for curriculum consistency.

  • Develop and prepare for submission of all reports and accreditation materials required by governing or accrediting agencies.
    • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Nursing and Evening Coordinator with the preparation of the annual report to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
    • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Nursing in preparation of the annual report to ACEN.
    • Collaborate with the Associate Dean in preparation of periodic reports to the National League for Nursing, Council of Associate Degree Programs, and ACEN.
    • Participate in studies from other nursing programs, doctoral candidates, and health agencies as appropriate

  • Collaborate in the formulation of the Program's budget and administer it within the prescribed limits established by the College.

  • Evaluate and make recommendations for any employees not in the faculty/professional staff unit assigned to his/her program area;

  • Cooperate with the President of the College or the President's designee in the development, dissemination and implementation of Board of Higher Education/College policy, regulations and procedures;
  • Participate in the Advisory Committee for the day and evening programs along with the Associate Dean of Nursing and the Evening Coordinator
  • Establish liaison and cooperation with external agencies essential to the implementation of the program particularly where use of external facilities or resource personnel is required;
  • Assist the Associate Dean with the Centralized Clinical Placement Program (CCP) to facilitate clinical placement of nursing students.
  • Cooperate and facilitate cooperation with other program areas and/or departments, learning resources, student services and administrative services within the College;
  • The Associate Dean shall implement all evaluation processes for the department chairperson and the coordinator, if said coordinator does not report to a department chair. If the coordinator reports to a department hair, the process for the evaluation of course materials shall be performed by the department chair;
  • Other duties may be assigned if specifically contained in a job description and such duties are consistent with the needs of the college and the provisions of this Article.
  • The department chair (program) shall be responsible for the total implementation of a college program and/or curriculum defined as a series of diverse courses usually leading to a certificate of associate degree and which require multiple faculty in order to provide core courses and where accreditation, licensure or other external governing agencies require a member defined within the unit to perform supervisory functions for approval, maintenance or continuance of the program.


Job Requirements:
  • MSN
  • Registered Nurse (RN) in Massachusetts or eligible to be registered in Massachusetts
  • Minimum of 5 years of acute care clinical experience or a minimum of 5 years' experience working as a registered nursing in a healthcare setting
  • Classroom teaching experience

Preferred:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in curriculum and course development
  • Knowledge of recent developments in nursing education
  • Awareness of sensitivity to educational goals of a diverse population
  • Understanding of evidence-based teaching strategies to improve student learning with a wide range of instructional systems development, tutoring methods, and techniques for student support and success
  • Experience in higher education and/or community college


Additional Information:
  • The appointment is for Fiscal Year 2026 (July 1, 2025 - Spring 2026). Some summer hours starting in July 2025.

Position Status: The Nursing Education Department Chair position may include weekend and evening events.

Salary: $50 per hour
