Monmouth University is seeking applications for an Admission Counselor in the Undergraduate Admission department.
The candidate would be expected to: impart information about the University to prospective students, parents, school counselors and independent counselors, to include: tuition and fees, academic award program, academic majors, student services, clubs and organizations; evaluate freshman applicants' academic credentials and highlight unique cases as deemed appropriate for further consideration for admission to or denial from the University; represent the University at high school visits, college fairs, counselor meetings and information sessions through travel, at high schools, school counselor events, and professional development meetings in and out of New Jersey.
This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Achievement of enrollment goals and objectives.
- Assist in the planning, development and implementation of Division marketing and enrollment strategies and exercise primary responsibility for execution of such strategies in areas of individual responsibility.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other departments for testing, advising, registration, housing and financial aid.
- Counsel prospective students regarding major/career options and act as a general liaison between the prospective student and the institution.
- Determine appropriate potential applicants for further contact and conduct necessary follow-up procedures via telecounseling, letter writing and e-mail campaigns; implement University policies as appropriate.
- Develop a recruitment plan for assigned area, including which high schools to visit.
- Encourage appropriate potential applicants to consider applying to Monmouth. Create a contact pool of potential applicants and determine and implement appropriate method of follow-up to encourage applications to Monmouth.
- Evaluate freshman applicants' academic credentials and highlight unique cases as deemed appropriate for further consideration for admission to or denial from the University.
- Impart information about the University to prospective students, parents, school counselors and independent counselors, to include: tuition and fees, academic award program, academic majors, student services, clubs and organizations.
- Meet with prospective students/applicants and determine whether to recruit and determine appropriate follow up depending on students' credentials/interests.
- Provide enhancements to and/or modifications of existing in-state and/or out-of-state travel and recruitment initiatives and the development of a plan to further enhance regional and national outreach.
- Provide general information regarding other administrative procedures at the University, such as financial aid, payment plans, add/drop, etc.
- Represent the University at high school visits, college fairs, counselor meetings and information sessions through travel, at high schools, school counselor events, and professional development meetings in and out of New Jersey.
- Review, evaluate and issue transfer admission decisions based on appropriate academic credentials.
- Serve as an institutional representative to recruit prospective students with particular focus on recruitment of under-represented student populations to assist with the enhancement of diversity on the University's campus.
- Prepare research and reports as they pertain to assigned recruitment territories.
- Present information sessions about the University on campus to a variety of groups including visiting high schools and large group information sessions, among others.
- Develop written material for inclusion in recruitment literature and communication, as assigned.
- Represent the Division of Enrollment Management and the Office of Undergraduate Admission on University committees, as assigned.
- Special assignments, as assigned such as but not limited to the following:
1. Management of the recruitment process for EOF (Educational Opportunity Fund). Manage communication for and determination of applicants to interview. Coordinate with other offices and institutions as appropriate, and participate in applicant interview process by conducting and/or coordinating interviews. Supervise student employee(s) working with the EOF admission process.
2. Management of the University Ambassador Program. Supervise, train, create schedules and determine hiring and continuance of student employees. - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or obtain by date of employment.
- A valid driver's license in your state of residence and have had no serious violations (Type A) within the past five (5) years and no more than three (3) moving violations (Type B) in the past three (3) years. University Policy found here: Monmouth University Vehicle Use Policy.
- Willingness and ability to travel/recruit throughout New Jersey, New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and various other states as required.
- Willingness and ability to work both traditional, evening and weekend hours.
- Candidate must have excellent writing and public speaking skills and interact comfortably both in large groups and with individual families.
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people. Must have the ability to work with students from various regions in the country and represent Monmouth effectively in new geographic markets.
- Must possess ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Must have the ability to plan, think critically, organize, and prioritize, as well as handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Word and Excel 2016.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Admission experience or employment as a student assistant in the Admission Office of four-year college or university.
- Expertise with collegiate information systems, information technology, administrative systems, and/or current technology for marketing and e-communication.
- Familiarity with MS PowerPoint 2016.
