General Description:
This is an exempt educational administrator position. The Manager of Business and Leadership Training Programs serves as the lead administrator for all noncredit, not-for-credit, and contract education training initiatives focused on business, leadership, and workforce development. This role provides instructional leadership, curriculum development, and community outreach to ensure the college offers responsive, high-quality training and professional development opportunities for employers, employees, and community members. The position also includes direct instruction, curriculum development, and student support functions. This position works in close collaboration with Merced College's Business Resource Center, the Office of Human Resources, instructional divisions, and external stakeholders to align offerings with institutional goals, workforce needs, and best practices in adult and organizational learning.
Examples of Duties
Representative Duties:
Instructional & Curriculum Leadership
- Provide innovative and effective instruction in business, leadership, and workforce development subject areas in accordance with established course outlines, current pedagogy, and instructional best practices.
- Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies; maintain regular and substantive contact with students.
- Utilize the college's Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver, prepare, and assess class
- materials, assignments, and examinations.
- Maintain and submit student attendance, grading, and scholastic records in accordance with institutional policies.
- Post and maintain regular office hours in compliance with applicable policies to ensure accessibility to students.
- Participate in the development, revision, and review of curriculum, including noncredit and not- for-credit offerings aligned with emerging trends in leadership, management theory, and workforce development.
- Develop and apply innovative teaching-learning methods and instructional materials for adult and professional learners.
- Develop effective teaching model, online courses, and associated pedagogy to ensure the long- term success of business and leadership training programs.
Program & Operational Management
- Lead the design, scheduling, coordination, and implementation of business and leadership training programs, including community-based workshops, employer seminars, and customized contract education programs.
- Serve as a primary liaison with the Office of Human Resources to co-develop and facilitate professional development offerings for Merced College employees.
- Coordinate instructional offerings across noncredit, contract education, and (as needed) credit courses in business, leadership, and management.
- Supervise contract instructors and manage all program logistics including facility use, materials, registration, and instructor assignments.
- Conduct training needs assessments and consult with employers, government entities, and agencies to inform and customize offerings.
- Develop new curriculum and programs based on emerging trends, employer feedback, and labor market data.
Strategic Outreach, Partnerships & Community Engagement
- Represent Merced College in the business community, with industry partners, and within professional networks to promote programming and build partnerships.
- Assist in growing the program through community outreach, employer engagement, and participation in local and regional events.
- Collaborate with the Business Resource Center and regional stakeholders to ensure alignment of training programs with economic development goals.
- Lead marketing and outreach strategies to promote trainings, including presentations, digital content, and printed materials.
Assessment, Planning & Reporting
- Participate in and support the College's learning outcomes assessment processes at the course,
- program, and institutional levels.
- Write and manage training proposals, service contracts, and reports for grants and funding sources.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable grant, accreditation, and reporting requirements.
- Serve on college committees, workgroups, and departmental meetings as needed to ensure alignment with institutional goals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Adult and professional instructional methods, curriculum design, and assessment

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in any discipline AND one (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment AND sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students*
- The equivalent education and experience
License or Certificate: A valid California Class "C" driver's license. Travel to locations throughout the District may be required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in business, education, leadership, or a related field
- Teaching or training experience in community college or adult education setting
- Familiarity with California Community College noncredit and contract education programs
- Experience designing leadership or organizational development programming
