The Department of Health Sciences in the Bouve College of Health Sciences of Northeastern University is hiring part-time lecturers for the Fall term at the Oakland campus. The Department's mission is to promote the health and well-being of diverse individuals, communities, and populations through health care innovations and interdisciplinary collaborative initiatives across all scientific fields, engineering, and the humanities.

Candidate will teach Undergraduate or Graduate courses, prepare syllabi, lectures, course materials, give all examinations including a final exam. They will work under the direction of the course coordinator for certain courses and will hold required office hours. They will engage productively with any teaching assistants and collaborate on course revisions and improvements with department faculty and the University's Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning through Research (CATLR).

Positions are available contingent upon enrollment, funding and departmental needs.

Salary: Stipend rates per course.

Fall Term:

Classes: September 3, 2025, through December 14, 2025.

Final Exams: Scheduled independently during the week of December 8, 2025.

Grades due: December 16, 2025 by 2:00pm EST

Undergraduate courses are scheduled in-person during the day, 2-3 days per week between the hours of 8:00am-6:35pm.

Representative Courses:

PHTH 1260. The American Healthcare System. Introduces the organization and dynamics of the healthcare system and the role of consumers. Explores basic elements of healthcare including financing, personal insurance, high-risk status, and patient rights within the context of the U.S. system. Central to this exploration is an analysis of healthcare issues requiring informed consent from patients: patient bill of rights, healthcare directives, and the use of a proxy for decision making. Introduces the roles and responsibilities of various healthcare workers within the framework of an interdisciplinary model of healthcare.

PHTH 2350. Community and Public Health. Provides students with a basic familiarity with and appreciation of public health and community-based methods for improving the health of populations. Explores the purpose and structure of the U.S. public health system, contemporary public health issues such as prevention of communicable diseases, health education, social inequalities in health and healthcare, public health responses to terrorism, and control of unhealthy behaviors like smoking, drinking, drug abuse, and violence.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have at least a Masters in an appropriate field. Doctoral degrees and teaching experience are preferred.
