Position Information

Hiring Department: UTEP InSPIRE

Hours:40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: exempt/non-exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Purpose of Position

The Instructional Developer plays a vital role in supporting faculty excellence at UTEP through the design, development, and delivery of high-impact professional development programming. This position is responsible for creating engaging, research-informed learning experiences that advance teaching effectiveness, instructional innovation, and the integration of new technologies. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus partners, the Instructional Developer supports both strategic initiatives and day-to-day programming that promote student-centered teaching.

Essential Functions

Design and implement faculty development programs (workshops, webinars, learning communities, institutes, online modules) grounded in evidence-based teaching practices.

Collaborate with faculty and instructional teams to develop resources and tools that support effective course design, inclusive pedagogy, and assessment strategies.

Support university-wide initiatives related to teaching innovation, curriculum development, and instructional technologies.

Conduct consultations and provide individualized support for faculty and instructional staff on topics such as syllabus design, active learning, and teaching with technology.

Research and curate content on instructional best practices, emerging trends in higher education, and adult learning principles.

Evaluate the effectiveness of faculty development programming using surveys, feedback tools, and learning analytics.

Contribute to the planning and coordination of special events, such as faculty institutes, teaching showcases, or teaching with AI forums.

Maintain knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies and learning design frameworks.

Serve as a thought partner on strategic projects that enhance the culture of teaching at UTEP.

Complies with all State and University Policies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility

and

Experience: At least 2 years of experience developing instructional materials or professional development programming in a higher education setting.

Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and evidence-based teaching practices. Strong presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience working with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas), digital tools, or instructional technologies.
