Job Summary
Maintains and reconciles ledgers and accounts according to generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares and analyzes financial information, prepares reports and financial statements based upon derived statistics and analysis performed.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for complex billing process twice a month including charges to campus partners and reallocations to internal departments.
- Reviews transactions prior to billing to ensure accuracy.
- Implements evolving technologies to leverage efficiencies.
- Follows a detailed list of instructions and completes each task with accuracy and efficiency Manages recurring journal entries and coordinates with peers on updates.
- Creates other journal entries upon request.
- Audits and reviews financial transactions and requisitions on multiple platforms, balances accounts, and communicates with departments to improve financial literacy
- Understands and improves business process, including University applications and policies and relevant third party applications.
- Creates and provides financial and spending reports to department supervisors
- Backs up other accountant roles such as Utility payments and billing and other receivables.
- Provide accounting training to department personnel
- Other duties as assigned
- This position may have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule but in-person work is expected.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency (two years of related work experience can be substituted for one year of education) required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.

Preferences
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field.
- Understanding of University of Utah accounting processes and tools.
