General Position Description:
Provides direct services to assist student with disabilities in transitioning to the post-secondary environment by ensuring appropriate accommodations and modifications necessary to ensure equal access.

Temporary Position (Temp or Grant Funded Details):
Salary Range: $38,654 per year

Essential Job Functions:
1. Reviews disability documentation and conducts student interviews to determine eligibility for services; maintains accurate files and records.
2. Collaborates with students, staff, and faculty to implement accommodations to ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies.
3. Facilitates the interactive process with students with documented disabilities to determine reasonable accommodations.
4. Provides consult to faculty regarding implementation of reasonable accommodations.

5. Works directly with faculty to negotiate and determine reasonable uncommon 

6. Assists in the development of programs and initiatives that promote awareness, sensitivity, advocacy, and competence in ensuring equal access for individuals with disabilities.
7. Actively participates in professional development opportunities as related to position.
8. Assists with maintaining coverage for regional campus locations.
 9.  Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Minimum Education:
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Field of Study:


Other Required Qualifications:
One year experience in education, counseling, working with students with disabilities, or related field.

Required License/Certification:


Preferred Education & Field of Study:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Psychology, Education, Sociology, or related field.

Preferred Type of Experience:
Three years experience working with students in an educational setting and/or working with individuals with disability preferred.

Preferred Licenses/Certification:


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of laws governing students with disabilities access to post-secondary education at an open access institution.

Knowledge of disability rights and disability culture.

Knowledge of college policies, procedures, and resources.

Ability to determine reasonable academic accommodations to ensure student access.

Ability to assess a situation and problem-solve appropriately.

Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and work collaboratively on a team.

Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.

Ability to travel to various campus locations, including regional campus sites.

Computer skills proficiency in a Windows environment.

Excellent customer service skills working with unique and diverse populations, including students, parents, and advocates.

Ability to collaborate with other departments in order to resolve student issues to full resolution.

Ability to maintain accurate records and files.

Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse populations.

General Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment and throughout the College's worksites and grounds. Within the professional office environment, the employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet and occasionally moderate. While operating outside of the office environment, the employee may be exposed to elements including but not limited to wet/humid weather, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. The role may also involve hazards or physical risks, which require comprehending and following basic safety precautions and may require Personal Protection Equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to remaining stationary, moving, ascending/descending, positioning self, reaching, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-100 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
