Job Summary
This position is an integral member of the Residence Education and Office of Dean of Students team within the Division of Student Affairs. Reporting directly to the Director of Student Accountability in the Office of the Dean of Students, the Assistant Director will support and operate comprehensive conduct management, both with students living the Residence Life and the larger campus community at the University of Utah.
The Assistant Director will also work collaboratively with colleagues within ORL. The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting in the supervision and management of all aspects of the student accountability system and providing a philosophical, developmental, and educational context for student behavior on campus. The Assistant Director must strategically lead the program, balancing the needs of individual students with the needs of the community and those directly affected by a student's behavior.
This position is responsible for providing leadership, training, support, and guidance to members of the campus community in addressing misconduct and/or assisting students affected by another's behavior. Additionally, the Assistant Director will interface and coordinate with campus entities such as Academic Advising, the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, Income Accounting, and Center for Student Wellness.

Responsibilities
The Assistant Director for Student Accountability will:
- Assists the Director in developing, administering, and revising appropriate departmental policies and procedures and student accountability policies and processes consistent with University community standards and professional best practices.
- Provide direction for staff in their role as hearing officers for violations of community standards within ORL by overseeing/directing student conduct case information to ensure accurate and consistent follow up (leadership, training, support and guidance). This will include developing a skills-based hearing officer training, sanction flowchart for consistent outcomes, and effective case distribution.
- Track cases starting with the incident report, through adjudication, and ending with sanction completion. This tracking should include identifying and classifying elements of Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA, and CARE. The tracking of data will lead to the Assistant Director reporting on trends in the residence halls.
- Work as an embedded team member of the Office of the Dean of Students and ORL. This will include but is not limited to weekly case meetings with the ODOS, consultations with case management, Residential Education management and all-staff meetings, and follow-up as needed. Providing regular updates to both the Director of Student Accountability and the Director of Residential Education will be consistent in this role. Serve as a mandatory campus reporter in all instances of Title IX .
- Design, adjust, and facilitate educational programming and ongoing training for student affairs and various campus partners, including, but not limited to accountability and student development.
- Serve as after business hour support for on-call staff through the AD on-call rotation, as part of the ODOS/ORL department response team in the case of an emergency. Thorough response to critical inquiries or needs from families, students, staff, faculty, alumni, and other campus constituents is an expectation along with knowledge of legal issues pertinent to housing.
- Assist in Residential Experience Model outcomes and creation, not limited to accountability.
- Assist in emergency management planning, crisis management, and training for staff.
- Support division-wide/non-residential accountability during high-volume/peak-times of any given academic year.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.
