General Position Description:
Responsible for teaching in the Intensive English Program, as well as assisting with the department's processes for curriculum and instructional development. Facilitates in a manner designed to promote and guide successful English language acquisition in keeping with the Communicative Approach. Duties include language instruction, lesson planning, program design, student placement testing, curriculum development, instructor development, program evaluation, and the development of policies and procedures associated with these responsibilities.

Salary Range: $55,118 - $61,319 per year

Essential Job Functions:
1. Instructs up to 20 hours per week in the Intensive English Program utilizing the provided lesson plans, courseware, materials, and technology. Follows guidelines required for all instructors in this program.
2. Serves as a substitute instructor on an as-needed basis for IEP or ESL programs.
3. Assists in the process of regularly reviewing and updating the curriculum for the Intensive English Program based on feedback from students, instructors, co-workers, and administration.
4. Participates in maintaining existing assessment tools and processes for program placement and student progression. Implements new assessments as necessary.
5. Assists with the placement of students, including proctoring placement tests, conducting oral evaluations, and assessing written responses.
6. Assists with maintaining accreditation status with the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA).
7. Supports professional development initiatives for part-time instructors in order to promote excellence and innovation in teaching, learning, and technology, and satisfy accreditation requirements. Conducts instructor observations.
8. Participates in instructor meetings; supports campus-based and college-wide committees in issues related to teaching, learning and technology.
9. Assists in the coordination of co-curricular activities for students; participates in these activities.
10. Assists in tutoring and test proctoring procedures in the programs language lab.
11. Collaborates in updating existing written guidelines pertaining to curriculum and instructor development; creates new guidelines as necessary.
12. Assists with updating existing curriculum and creating new curriculum for the Language Program in the Continuing International Education department as needed.
13. Works collaboratively with administration, co-workers, staff, faculty, and other departments to achieve established goals.
14. Researches, articulates, and disseminates innovative best practices in instructor development, teaching, learning and technology in all instructional modalities.
15. Acquires knowledge and skills through continuing professional education, credit courses, seminars, workshops and conferences.
16. Is familiar with and maintains behavior and actions consistent with college policies and practices.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Minimum Education:
Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Required Field of Study:
TESOL

Other Required Qualifications:
High Level of proficiency in English.

Facilitation/instruction experience in teaching English as a Second Language to adult learners.

Experience in developing curriculum for language programs.

Experience in faculty development or professional development.

General Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment and throughout the College's worksites and grounds. Within the professional office environment, the employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet and occasionally moderate.

While operating outside of the office environment, the employee may be exposed to elements including but not limited to wet/humid weather, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. The role may also involve hazards or physical risks, which require comprehending and following basic safety precautions and may require Personal Protection Equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to remaining stationary, moving, ascending/descending, positioning self, reaching, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-100 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
