Job Summary:
Join Central Human Resources as a Compensation Consultant - Intermediate or Senior Professional. This is a full-time University Staff position. The Consultant provides compensation analysis and consulting services to university clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides compensation analysis and consulting services to university clients.
- Responsible for review of hiring and promotional salaries for university staff and classified positions. Reviews requests within SmartSheet. Ensure that equity is considered as part of review. Works with HR Business Partners to explain rationale for approvals.
- Responsible for review and response for questions that are submitted via the HR Compensation In Box.
- Responsible for review of in-range and discretionary pay considerations Reviews and approves temporary additional pay requests for classified and university staff positions.
- Participates in projects related to the development, improvement and implementation of market-competitive structures, market reviews, incentive compensation, and pay equity process.
- Provides training to HR Business Partners on compensation topics.
- Position is responsible for back up for searching market data and establishing salary ranges for requests that are outside of established ranges for University Staff and positions higher than Director level.
Work Location:
Hybrid or Out of State - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 1 - 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings or out of state with campus presence of no less than one week quarterly at the employee's expense.

Qualifications:
Intermediate Compensation Consultant
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, social sciences, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and one year of compensation experience which included review of salaries for equity.
Substitution: Professional level human resources experience in compensation analysis may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree requirement, but not for the specific compensation experience.
Senior Professional Compensation Consultant
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, social sciences, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and two years of compensation experience which included review of salaries for equity.
Substitution: Professional level human resources experience in compensation analysis may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree requirement, but not for the specific compensation experience.
Preferred Qualifications for both levels
- Higher Education compensation experience
- Strong attention to detail
- Familiarity with compensation consulting which included market pricing, conducting and documenting pay equity reviews, and training creation and delivery
- Expert level experience working with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
- Experience working with SmartSheet functionality
- Experience running reports in Human Capital Management (HCM) or similar HRIS system and Central Information Warehouse (CIW) or comparable system
- Active certification in Human Resources and/or Compensation such as PHR, SHRM, or CCP
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for both levels:
- Strong analytical thinking skills, quantitative analysis, creative problem solving, and the ability to be flexible and work well in a time-critical, complex environment with competing priorities
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives for a timely and successful conclusion
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to compensation challenges
- Excellent time management skills and organization to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion initiatives

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
Intermediate Compensation Consultant: $59,000 - $67,000
Senior Compensation Consultant: $68,000 - $75,000
The salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
