Position Announcement


At Utah Valley University, the Coordinator for Orientation plays a key role in shaping the first impressions and long-term success of incoming students. Working under the direction of the Assistant Director of First-Year Experience & Orientation, this position designs and delivers engaging in-person and online orientation programs that provide students with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to thrive at UVU. By ensuring orientation content is accurate, welcoming, and aligned with institutional goals, the Coordinator helps create a strong foundation for student belonging and achievement.

This role also offers the opportunity to mentor and support Orientation Leaders, fostering their growth as student leaders and enhancing the overall orientation experience. Ideal for a professional who values collaboration, innovation, and student success, the position combines program management, leadership development, and creative problem-solving in a dynamic and student-centered environment.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Leads the strategic planning and execution of all logistical components for both virtual and in-person onboarding experiences for incoming students. This includes managing online orientation modules, coordinating summer on-campus orientation events, and organizing a variety of first-year experience programs throughout the academic year to ensure a seamless and engaging transition into university life.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication strategy for newly admitted students, guiding them from the point of acceptance through the first day of classes. This includes managing outreach through the Admissions CRM, coordinating messaging across email and text platforms, and leveraging additional communication channels to ensure timely, personalized, and engaging interactions that support a smooth transition into UVU.
  • Maintains proactive and consistent communication with campus partners to coordinate and promote onboarding initiatives and first-year experience events, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and a unified student support strategy across departments.
  • Supports the Assistant Director in the recruitment, training, and supervision of the student orientation team, playing a key role in fostering a welcoming and effective onboarding experience. Additionally, provides administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of office functions and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree and one year of experience in similar duties.

Preferred Qualifications:
Spanish or multi-lingual proficiency is preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of graphic design and the creative process for both printed and on-line materials.
  • Knowledge of creating budgets for projects.
  • Knowledge of orientation best practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of theories working with student success and retention.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and practice.
  • Knowledge and computer skills in word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and other basic functions (email, Internet, etc.).
Skills
  • Skill in development and coordination of special events, specifically new student, parent and family programs.
Abilities
  • Ability to train employees, volunteers, and students in operation of programs.
  • Ability to develop orientation programs and related events.
  • Ability to provide engaging verbal presentations to large audiences.
  • Ability to draft grammatically correct and effective written communications.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment (copier, fax machine, etc.).
