Job Description

The Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking an Associate Coordinator for the Pacific Southwest Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC).

This Associate Coordinator position will serve as the Pacific Southwest PTTC Fellow for SAMHSA’s prevention fellowship program, which places special emphasis on growing the number of well-trained prevention professionals.

The Associate Coordinator provides entry-level activities to support implementing designated grant/contract activities. The specific responsibilities include assisting in planning grant/contract activities, generating reports, collecting data, entering data into databases, and managing training/TA customer relationships.

General responsibilities:

  • Follow detailed instructions, rules, and regulations in completing project deliverables as assigned

  • Participate in activities and meetings related to planning, scheduling, and implementation of grant/contract activities

  • Conduct data collection; enter data into databases, and analyze data for reporting purposes

  • Maintain effective communication with internal staff members

  • Develop positive relationships with all grant/contract customers/stakeholders and respond to project-related requests

  • Complete reports and evaluation tasks

  • Other duties as assigned.


For this position, designated grant/contract activities include:

  • Project(s) as defined by the host site and the Pacific Southwest PTTC

  • Training and mentoring

  • Ongoing learning and capacity development activities

  • Virtual and In-person training and work experience geared toward becoming a certified prevention specialist, including successfully passing the Prevention Specialist certification exam

  • Site Mentor - Fellows will receive mentorship from prevention staff by the host site organization and will be exposed to the day-to-day workings of the site.

  • Pacific Southwest PTTC Mentor â€"Pacific Southwest PTTC staff will provide ongoing guidance and training on primary substance misuse prevention.

  • Other projects to be defined


Reporting and data include:

  • Completing data requests as assigned

  • Collecting and entering project data

  • Tracking progress toward Prevention Specialist certification

  • Managing Training TA relationships include:

  • Frequent, consistent, professional communication with the host site staff, the PTTC Network mentor, PTTC staff, and other Fellows

  • The Associate Coordinator will demonstrate progress toward Prevention Specialist certification during their employment.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience in community outreach, project coordination, strategic planning, program implementation and/or evaluation within the context of primary prevention OR a Master’s Degree

Reside in HHS Region 9: American Samoa, Arizona, California, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Republic of Palau

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working or volunteering in community-based organizations

Demonstrated commitment to providing responsive services for communities

Preference is given to recent college graduates or early career professionals with experience in substance misuse prevention

Schedule and Travel Requirements

  • Variable work hours (to include nights and weekends)

  • Travel occasionally (required 3-5 times per year)
