Position DescriptionThe Area of ISQS in the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Assistant Professor of Practice in Information Systems position to begin January 1, 2026. This is a renewable position, with a promising career path of continuing appointment and promotion to Associate upon six years of continuous full-time appointment. Having a standard 3-3 course workload, this positions pay range is between $110k and $140k, dependent upon the candidates qualifications and experience. In addition, summer support is available to facilitate faculty members teaching or research.

This is a renewable position, with a promising career path of continuing appointment and promotion to Associate upon six years of continuous full-time appointment. Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Area of ISQS, you will be expected to: 1) contribute to the teaching mission of the Area at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, as per the needs of the Area; 2) conduct scholarly research in referred academic journals in areas aligned with the IS discipline; 3) provide service to the Area, college, and university.


Required Qualifications
  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in Information Systems or a closely related discipline (for example, Business Analytics, Operations Management, Decision Science, or Data Sciences) obtained by the first day of employment;
  • Evidence of teaching or applied experience in the areas of system-level applications relevant to databases, information retrieval, networking, and large-scale IT systems (teaching while being a graduate student as instructors or teaching assistants will count toward this requirement);
  • A demonstrated track record of publishing peer-reviewed research in information systems and/or other business-related journals is required.


Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • Experience of teaching courses on the topic of data structures and advanced data management;
  • Experience of teaching courses on the topic of information systems security or cybersecurity;
  • An established record of teaching, or practical engagement with, telecommunication systems, enterprise architecture, system integration, or related areas.
