Multimedia Designer

Empire State University is currently seeking a creative and detail-oriented Multimedia Designer to join our instructional design and instructional technology teams. This professional role will play a key part in designing and developing custom multimedia content that enhances student learning and engagement. The ideal candidate will have experience producing a variety of digital media assets and be skilled in using industry-standard tools.

Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate with project leads, instructional designers, and instructional technologists to produce effective multimedia content for use in Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, and other educational formats.
  • Design and develop high-quality graphics, animations, videos, interactive media, and presentation materials.
  • Use professional audio/video editing software and multimedia authoring tools to create engaging digital content.
  • Apply best practices in design, usability, and accessibility to all development projects.
  • Design multimedia materials in response to identified course needs, using content provided by the development team.
  • Stay up to date with multimedia trends and develop content that resonates with SUNY Empire's diverse learning population.
  • Support innovation in educational technology by identifying, piloting, and integrating new tools and techniques.
  • Manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment with flexibility and attention to changing priorities.
  • Continuously engage in professional learning to stay abreast of emerging technologies, particularly in artificial intelligence, and proactively integrate new tools, techniques, and innovations into multimedia design and development practices.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with team members and demonstrate creative problem-solving.
  • Provide multimedia and design support for the Office of Academic Affairs projects, assisting with key initiatives as needed.


Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Instructional Design, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of professional experience in multimedia design or related work.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of multimedia and eLearning tools, including:
    • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, etc.)
    • Kaltura or other video hosting platform
    • Video and audio production software
  • Understanding of graphic design principles and gamification concepts.
  • Proficient with HTML and CSS.
  • Familiarity with ADA accessibility standards and media compliance.
  • Working knowledge of AI tools.
  • Experience integrating multimedia into LMS platforms (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle).

Special Information:
  • Occasional travel may be required to fulfill department, division, and university-wide commitments.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.

Additional Information:
Rank/Salary: Instructional Support Technician, SL3/ $57,500-$60,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
