The position exists to provide institutional knowledge, support, and project consulting for water and steam utility infrastructure systems on campus. This position provides both historical context and strategic advice to leadership in regard to water utility and steam systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Utility infrastructure survey, inventory, and condition assessment (50%)
Essential Functions: Yes
- Survey and document underground water and sewer utility systems on campus. When possible, rate estimated condition of systems and help prioritize replacement or make recommendations for repair.
- Work with the Office of Design and Construction and the Capital Planning Department and associated consultants to create utility master planning documents.
- Work with consultants and Mines staff to update Google maps and other associated GIS systems and drawings with information about utility systems on campus.
SPECIAL PROJECT Support for water Utility infrastructure (20%)
Essential Functions: Yes
- Consult and support small water utility projects such as underground water main break repairs, steam line leak repairs or replacement or storm or sanitary sewer upgrades.
- Perform construction observation walks for underground water utility projects.
- Consult on specifications and drawings as necessary for underground utility and steam projects.
CONSTRUCTION Observation and commissioning FOR WATER UTILITY In construction Projects (20%)
Essential Functions: Yes
- Construction observation of new buildings and sites including plumbing systems, water utility systems and steam systems.
- Review of drawings and specifications of water and utility systems for new construction.
- Consulting with Mines personnel on campus standards when required.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (10%)

- Other duties as assigned to meet the objectives of the program and/or Mines.

JOB DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Minimal Level of Education and Experience:
- Minimum 15 years experience in plumbing and/or pipe fitting
- Experience working with wet plumbing systems including repair.
- Experience working with underground water utility systems.
- Knowledge of steam systems including inspection of quality of welding and installation.
Certifications and Licenses:
- State of Colorado Master Plumber License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities and Other Attributes (KSAOs):
- Outstanding communication skills
Computer Skills - spreadsheets, word processing, email, Teams
Ability to collaborate with others in one-on-one situations as well as group settings
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Desired level of Education and Experience:
- At least 20 years experience in plumbing and utility systems.
- 10 years pipe fitting experience
- 15 years experience inspecting and testing NFPA water-based fire protection systems
Certifications and Licenses:
- ASSE Backflow License
- Certified Pool Operator License
- ASME Certified Welder
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities and Other Attributes (KSAOs):
- Ability to lead others and train others when necessary
Salary and Benefits
$50/hour
