JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Director, Wellness Programs serves on the Office of Student Success leadership team and leads and coordinates a comprehensive university wellness program that includes students, staff, and faculty across The University of Tennessee Health Science Center locations statewide. This position, in partnership with the leadership of campus working groups focused on wellness, provides vision, strategic leadership, and enact a model of service delivery and professional training to promote optimal mental, emotional, and physical health and wellness to the campus community. The range of services will include prevention, intervention, and health promotion for students, faculty, staff, and organizations within the campus community. This position focuses on fostering and supporting a comprehensive approach to wellness. This position serves as a working member of the CARE Team and supervises the Associate Director of Campus Recreation and the Associate Director of Student Counseling Services.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements a strategic vision for wellness programming, aligned with institutional goals and UT System wellness initiatives.
- Evaluates and improves existing programs and proposes new initiatives in mental health, physical health, resilience, and prevention.
- Leads or coordinates the development of campus-wide wellness committees and councils and develops innovative ways to connect wellness across the UTHSC campuses statewide
- Coordinates proactive mental health and wellness programs, workshops, and training for students, faculty, and staff.
- Partners with academic, clinical, and student affairs units to identify and respond to wellness-related trends.
- Integrate wellness into student orientation, academic programs, and student organizations.
- Collects and analyzes wellness data to guide program development and reporting. Ensures programs align with accreditation requirements (e.g., LCME, ACPE, CODA).
- Assist with policy and procedures development related to suicide prevention and postvention.
- Provides supervision to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation and the Associate Director of Student Counseling Services, bringing together Student Success units that support the physical and emotional wellness of students, staff, and faculty.
- Serves as an advisor to wellness-related student groups and represents the university on system-wide wellness working groups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Counseling, Social Work, Student Affairs, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience in a wellness setting. (Experience administering or supervising comprehensive wellness programs is preferred. Experience with college students, LPC, or other mental health licensure preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of wellness program development and best practices in higher education or healthcare settings.
- Skill in developing and delivering training on sensitive wellness-related topics.
- Skill in crisis response and appropriate referrals.
- Ability to lead teams and collaborate across academic, clinical, and administrative units.
- Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, and ADA and their application in academic environments.
- Skill in data analysis and program evaluation.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
