Job Description
The Department of Physical Therapy is seeking a full-time non-tenure Instructor or Assistant Professor and Clinic Director. This is a dual role position combining 0.5 FTE administrative/clinical leadership with 0.5 FTE academic responsibilities. The Clinic Director oversees the daily operations of the outpatient clinic, including patient care coordination, referral management, staff supervision, and quality improvement initiatives. The faculty role teaches in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in their area of expertise, contributes to curriculum development, and engages in scholarly activity, which may include DPT-related clinical research.


Responsibilities
FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES (0.5 FTE)

Teaching & Mentorship
  • Teach assigned courses in the DPT curriculum, with emphasis on the faculty member's clinical area of expertise.
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring for DPT students.
  • Contribute to course and curriculum design, assessment, and continuous improvement processes.

Scholarship & Research
  • Engage in scholarly activity, which may include clinical research, program evaluation, or practice-based inquiry.
  • Disseminate scholarly work through publications, presentations, or integration into clinical education.
  • Foster opportunities for student involvement in research and evidence-based practice initiatives.

Service
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees as assigned.
  • Contribute to community engagement and professional service consistent with institutional mission.


OUTPATIENT CLINIC DIRECTOR (0.5 FTE)

Clinical Operations & Leadership
  • Direct and oversee daily operations of the outpatient physical therapy clinic.
  • Ensure efficient patient scheduling, referral management, and documentation compliance.
  • Supervise clinic staff, including physical therapists, support personnel, and students performing research or clinical experiences in the clinic.
  • Develop and maintain clinic policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards.

Patient Care
  • Provide direct patient care consistent with licensure, workload allocation, and patient needs.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and ensure delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care.
  • Serve as a liaison between the clinic, referring providers, and community stakeholders.

Administrative Duties
  • Manage clinic budget, billing processes, and productivity benchmarks in collaboration with the Department Chair and finance staff.
  • Coordinate clinical placement and mentorship opportunities for DPT students.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and support compliance with federal/state regulations and accreditation standards.

Qualifications
EDUCATION: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of clinical experience in an outpatient physical therapy practice. Demonstrated excellence in patient care and clinic operations.

LICENSES: Current license or license eligible as a Physical Therapist in Tennessee.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Board certification in a clinical specialty area (ABPTS or equivalent). Previous leadership or management experience in a clinical setting. Record of scholarly activity (publications, presentations, funded projects). Familiarity with accreditation standards relevant to DPT education and clinical operations.
