Job Summary


The Department of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering, in partnership with the Center for Advanced Decision Support for Water and Environmental Systems at the University of Colorado Boulder, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work on a project funded by USBR and NOAA. The goal of the project is to enhance reservoir operations at interannual time scales (0 ~ 24 months) on the Colorado River Basin using improved flow forecasts. The researcher will work with water resources decision support system on the River Basin in assessing and translating the skills in the streamflow forecast to water resources decisions at interannual time scales. In this effort the researcher will work closely with flow forecasters including The Colorado Basin River Forecast Center (CBRFC) and their Ensemble Streamflow Prediction (ESP) and, stakeholders in the basin.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Modeling the Colorado River Basin using Reclamation's mid-term operations model.
  • Working with forecasters and research team, test skill of experimental forecasts at various lead times.
  • Working with stakeholders to understand their needs for forecast skill in operational decision making.
  • Exploring decision options and analyze performance with flow variability.
  • Collaborating on writing reports and peer reviewed journal articles.
  • Interacting with faculty, graduate students, external partners and participate in project meetings.
  • Engage in peer reviewed journal publications, interact with faculty, graduate students and external partners, and participate in project meetings.


What You Should Know


The start date will be as soon as possible. The position is for approximately 1.5 - 3 years, upon satisfactory performance.


What We Can Offer


The annual salary range associated with the position is $45,000.00 - $75,000.00.

What We Require


Ph.D in Civil or Environmental Engineering with specialization in Hydrology and Water Resources or a related field.


What You Will Need


The position requires expertise in water resources systems modeling and exposure to hydrologic forecast and stakeholder participation.
