The Chemistry Department is encouraging applications for the Laboratory Coordinator position! This position is responsible for the preparation of materials and set up for student experiments, maintenance of apparatus and instruments, compliance with safety protocols and proper chemical waste disposal, assisting graduate teaching assistants and faculty, and various administrative duties. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Lab Preparation & Chemical Safety
- Laboratory related tasks and safety issues for teaching labs and lecture demonstrations: Preparation of solutions and reagents in required quantities for assigned courses, set up labs with apparatus/equipment/glassware needed for each experiment, and develop "green chemistry" experiments to reduce wastes as well as conserve energy and water and improve sustainability. Practice lab safety at all times; stay updated on EH&S compliance and maintain SAAs; ensure lab safety is enforced in all teaching labs and with student lab assistants; set up, support, and clean up lecture demonstrations and develop new ones; and extensive support for CU Wizard shows and summer outreach programs.
- Support TA Training activities, lab practicum, and weekly TA meetings; communicate with instructors and TAs to facilitate makeup lab experiments; arrive on time and ensure students and TAs are supported when recitations and labs are in session; work patiently with students, TAs, and course instructors; and monitor and assess breakage for reporting to Bursar's office.
- Keep track of all activities and forms related to recitations and labs both electronically and as hard copies as necessary; maintain files on general chemistry server for access by instructors and staff; support faculty and TAs with Canvas course pages and score uploads; and assist with clickers as necessary.
What You Should Know
This is an on-campus position. The work schedule for this position is: Monday 9:30a-6:30p, Tuesday 7:30a-5:30p, Wednesday 11:30a-6:30p, Thursday 7:30a-5:30p, Friday 9:30a-6:30p. You will be expected to work up to 40 hours per week.
What We Can Offer
- The salary range for this position is $51,770.
- If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require
- 2+ years of relevant experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
- Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year- for-year basis.
- As a classified position, you must be a Colorado resident at the time of application for consideration.
