The Strategic Relations and Communications Department encourages applications for a Senior HR Generalist! This position plays a pivotal role in shaping, overseeing, and advancing the human resources strategy for Strategic Relations and Communications (SRC). In collaboration with and under the direction of campus Human Resources, this leadership position is responsible for managing and implementing HR policies, procedures, and programs that support SRC's mission, promote a diverse and inclusive work environment, and guarantee adherence with all relevant regulations. The position will collaborate with senior management and serve as a trusted advisor on all HR matters. Reporting directly to the Director of Budget and Finance, this position serves as a trusted advisor on all HR matters to unit staff, unit managers, Associate and Assistant Vice Chancellors (AVCs), and the Chief Communications Officer (CCO).

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


HR Strategy and Leadership:

In collaboration with campus Human Resources and following campus standards, requirements, and practices, the position will manage internal HR processes for the unit.
  • Create and Implement HR Strategies: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive HR strategies that align with the university's mission and goals. Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure HR initiatives support SRC's strategic direction.
  • Talent Acquisition and Retention: Be responsible for the recruitment and selection process for all staff positions. Implement effective onboarding and orientation programs. Develop retention strategies to ensure the university attracts and retains top talent.
  • Performance Management: Establish and lead performance management processes, including goal setting, performance appraisals, and professional development plans. Provide guidance and training to managers on best practices in performance management.
  • Pay and Equity Management: Be responsible for payroll reconciliation, promptly address pay discrepancies, and implement strategies to prevent errors. Lead pay equity assessments and recommend starting salary and salary adjustments for new hires and existing staff.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Promote and support diversity and inclusion initiatives, fostering a culture of equity and belonging.
  • Employee Engagement: Support strategies to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Professional Development: Design and promote professional development programs and opportunities for employees. Collaborate with staff and managers to identify training needs.
  • Employee Relations: Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on employee relations matters, including disciplinary actions, grievances, and conflict resolution.

HR Compliance and Policy Development:

In collaboration with campus Human Resources and following campus standards, requirements, and practices, the position will run internal HR processes for the unit.
  • HR Policies and Procedures: Develop, update, and communicate HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as university policies.
  • Legal Compliance: Stay current on labor laws, regulations, and industry trends in higher education. Advise senior management on HR-related legal matters and ensure the institution's compliance.
  • Conflict Resolution: Lead and facilitate conflict resolution processes, ensuring fair and equitable resolutions. Provide guidance to managers and employees on conflict resolution techniques.
  • Data and Reporting: Maintain accurate HR records and generate reports to support data-driven decision-making. Ensure data privacy and security compliance.

Operational Leadership and Integration:

In collaboration with SRC leadership and aligned with campus standards, the position will manage operational functions that support strategic HR and finance integration, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Organizational Development: Assess SRC's organizational needs and implement strategies to enhance effectiveness and employee engagement, employing SRC's project management systems and unit-specific processes.
  • Process Optimization: Develop, maintain, and document efficient SRC-specific processes, conducting regular reviews to ensure alignment with unit goals and operational excellence.
  • Support Strategic HR-Finance Integration: Assist the Director with key projects and serve as proxy for SRC operations and finance functions, ensuring real-time coordination between HR and budget decisions, supporting timely, accurate, and fiscally disciplined hiring, promotion, and pay decisions.
  • Project Management System Integration: Lead the integration and continuous improvement of SRC's project management platform (Asana) for all HR and operational workflows, including hiring, exit, performance management, job, position, pay changes, training, meetings, calendars, internship, hourly freelance and student support, recognition programs, ad hoc organizational change initiatives, onboarding, people manager support, and executive leader support.
  • Custom Performance Management: Design and implement unit-specific performance management cycles within SRC's systems, ensuring supervisor accountability and alignment with SRC's goals and OKRs.
  • Policy and Compliance Innovation: Author and maintain SRC-specific employee and people manager handbooks, promotion and pay guidance, and succession planning workflows, ensuring compliance and adaptability to SRC's evolving needs.
  • Staff Training and Development: Develop and deliver tailored staff training and development initiatives, using SRC's platforms and addressing the unique needs of the unit.
  • Operational Excellence Initiatives: Manage SRC's onboarding, mentoring, incident documentation, and resolution processes, driving continuous improvement and organizational excellence.
  • Campus Engagement and Best Practice Sharing: Actively contribute to campus-wide HR strategy groups, bringing back best practices and adapting them for SRC's operational context.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What You Should Know


The work schedule for this position is 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday. SRC offers flexible work schedules and work modalities with supervisory approval and an approved CU Work Agreement Form.


What We Can Offer


The starting annual salary for this full-time position is $67,600-$76,200.

What We Require

  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional-level experience.
