Job Summary
The Office of Information Technology encourages applications for a Software Asset Manager! This role is responsible for the campus Software Asset Management (SAM) program, which joins the comprehensive campus IT Asset Management (ITAM) function. The SAM program tracks and manages the financial, licensing, and contractual aspects of IT software assets through their lifecycle and collects and uses data about usage and coverage to right-size software license agreements, recapture licenses, and manage the amount and type of applications in the software portfolio. SAM programming also provides proactive, customer-facing services to CU Boulder including a cohesive software catalog and knowledge resources, internal chargeback and cost-sharing models, internal software sales, and data to support enterprise business decisions. SAM develops, implements, and guides process to support all program functions and administers technical tools to supervise, license, and distribute software. The program also manages software audit response and audit risk mitigation and provides regular SAM risk-assessments to leadership.
The Software Asset Manager helps drive decisions regarding software licensing models and terms that have a direct impact on the CU Boulder's business functions and mission. This position regularly collaborates with finance, procurement, legal, and IT security staff. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Software licensing, distribution, and compliance
- Coordinate responses to audits including internal and vendor inquiries.
- Provide support in ensuring software compliance through data review, reporting, helping identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Curate and publish the software catalog (available list of software titles offered to faculty, staff, and students) and ensure its availability.
- Maintain an inventory of OIT software.
- Develop appropriate distribution methods for software to customer populations.
- Provide access rights and provisioning for customer populations, including administrators and users of the software.
- Supervise individual software sales (to institutional accounts within campus, whether to units or individuals; and to individuals, including students, faculty, and staff, who use personal payment options).
- Identify inefficiencies or required changes within the SAM program and make suggestions to improve or supplement processes as necessary.
- Maintain internal and external documentation, including the customer-facing website, and IT knowledge resources.
- Work on developing campus software standards.
- Seek out new opportunities for providing software licensing services and standard processes to the campus community.
- Play a key role in the implementation of the Software Asset Management tool, driving assigned deliverables and supporting overall project success.
- Work on projects around enterprise software, working closely with service managers, business owners, and subject matter experts.
- Manage campus software contracts and distribute information about contracts appropriately.
- Engage partners to obtain and confirm crucial information.
- Track, maintain, and coordinate license and maintenance agreement renewals and new agreements, including negotiation, procurement, and compliance for managed software.
- Function as primary point of contact for each managed software vendor.
- Collaborate with contract and procurement colleagues to assist with developing statements of work (SOWs) and contract statements.
- Provide timely, proficient, and professional responses to advanced support cases.
- Coordinate large scale incident response for managed software and related services.
- Provide backup and overage support for the Software Licensing Professional's duties, and for the software-related duties of the ITAM Coordinator.

- The salary range is $115,400 to $129,819 annually.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited University. A combination of education and/or related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in software asset management.
- Familiarity with SAM specialty tools, such as ServiceNow, Flexera, Ivanti, or Snow License Manager.
- Experience using ServiceNow or similar ITSM tool.
- Certification for Software Asset Management, Asset Management, or ITIL/ITSM or the willingness to become certified within one year.
